Yes, this was a fine generation of actors. It may sound trite- but they don't make 'em like that anymore. They were grown up men.
Don't know if his name was on that great list posted by p14u2nv but Robert Montgomery- another great actor from that era (and Elizabeth Montgomery's dad) worked for my old man during the war. My dad really liked him. Said he wasn't the greatest naval officer in the navy but he made himself useful and thats what mattered.
James Whitmore we will miss you. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to reminisce. Always loved you as Gus Minissi in "The Asphalt Jungle" with Sterling Hayden, Jean Hagen, Sam Jaffe and Marilyn Monroe in her very first and un-credited roll. Great flick. Also and forever, as Sgt. Ben Petersen in "THEM!".
