JetBlue First Officer accused of threatening harm to passengers.

I guess he sent a text to his ex-girlfriend saying he was going to do some bad stuff, so she immediately turned him in. He was not allowed to board his next flight. Beware of the video, it's standard TV news lying about a bunch of stuff or being misinformed. I'm not exactly a pilot for a part 121 operator, but I'd bet money there's an mental evaluation before crewing revenue flights. We'll see when Bone comes by.

This guy was in the FFDO program. He's probably not going to fly around with a gun anymore.

What difference does it make who reports it? The news anchors don't write the stories, they just read the teleprompters.

Gee the media was misinformed about an aviation-related story. What a surprise! :eek: It gets especially funny on the local news around Airventure time...
 
I'd like to see more details before making conclusions on this one. If the ex-girlfriend is being honest on this one, then the pilot certainly has mental problems. By the way, one of the requirements to hold and earn an ATP is to be of solid citizenship and maturity. This means that if he is deemed to be mentally unbalanced, that finding by the FAA alone will strip him of his ATP.

However, my cynical side says this might be a vengeful ex-lover, who released this to get even. Perhaps the pilot realized the time to fight this in court isn't now, but to quietly accept administrative leave.

Either way, the safe thing is to take him off the line and parse facts from fiction.

Couric isn't exactly David Brinkley!

She isn't some hardened news veteran. Yeah, she can read a teleprompter. To quote Don Henley, she's "the bubble-headed bleach blonde, comes on at five, can tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye!"

This is the idiot who on camera coerced a rape victim to give her assaulter a hug on set! To orchestrate such a move for ratings points out the mental and moral makeup on this woman.

So, when someone makes a reference to her and infers authenticity and command of a subject, I think it's a fair point to make.

Could very well be a case where the just dumped Flight Attendant girlfriend was looking for some payback, and massaged some of the real facts to be juicier than what they really were. In this day and age, all you have to do is point the finger at a flightcrew member and they are taken offline. It's a shoot-first-ask-questions-later flying world of playing it safe.
