JF/CS C-130 Hercules for FSX

According to my records, I purchased the CS C-130 Hercules for FS9 back in December 2006.

When I moved FS9 over to my new computer, that was one of the addons that got trashed by McAfee. When I flew it last, it had no landing gear. But I did enjoy it although it did tax my older system.

I've been considering getting the latest version for FSX. Any thoughts or comments or words of advice before I plunk down any of my retirement income??

Thanks in advance.

The plane was produced by CS and sold by them and JF. If you get the JF version, CS will not support it but I believe it has an extra feature, something to do with the way it handles refueling. If you can wait, CS will eventually have a 9euro sale again. They usually do it twice a year. When you do get it, it has some quirks, nothing that can't be worked around. If you start at the beginning of the C130 forum on CS and read through to the end, you will know everything you ever wanted to know and then some as this has been around for a while. I still fly the plane as it is fun to fly and had good performance even on my old system. It only has the steam gauges at this point and CS has only now started a thread about a wishlist for a new C130. I would not be surprised if a new C130 with a glass cockpit comes out within the next 5 to 10 years.

Captain Sim is currently selling the C-130 All-In-One Pack for $39.99. Regular price is $89.97. Doesn't make sense to wait until August, December or several years from now.

Basic question remains. Are their any issues with the FSX version? Or is there another FSX C-130 I should look into??

I think issues are in the eye of the beholder. If you read though the forum people love it to death and others think it is the worst piece of junk ever foisted on the public. The primary bug has to do with starting the engines. It seems to vary from startup to startup. I have never failed to start the engines from a cold and dark state, but the process can be slightly different each time. Sometimes you have to hold the starter button until it starts, other times you can click and hold for about 2 seconds then release and it will start. Often if it won't seem to start, get out of FSX then back into it again choosing the C130 as the first aircraft and it will start right up. I believe it has to do with the multitudinous variety of configurations that are possible with a start up of FSX and the fact that some of them may need to be in a state for the C130 that your particular setup does not currently have. This is not unique to this airplane, many suffer from this and a good understanding of FSUIPC startup macros can be a good thing for seting things correctly when the plane starts. I am in the Love it to Death crowd. As long as it has been around, there is no other model available that compares with it. If you do have problems, the CS forums are very well attended and you will find that the participants are very helpful. Mostly from the community as CS does not participate much in the forum content, but the community is very active.

Hope this helps.

CS's Herks are excellent C-130E and early H models. Beyond that, they are poor. Their J-models do not represent the aircraft other than an external model. Interior and sounds are still old round dial Echos with the T56 engines. No MFDs or Rolls Royce turbo engine sounds.

Depending on what you are after, the choice is yours. Personally, I wish I would have not spent the money on anything CS. Initially they had the right idea, but as their products expanded, they gave only half an effort. When I buy an expansion, I expect it to be a fully working match for said aircraft. CS has missed out on what I've purchased and doesnt really back it up.

Well, I think I'm going to bag it for now.

I attempted to reinstall my FS9 purchase, but got an error code message. Guess it doesn't like Win8.

Thanks for the feedback.
