Here are pics of 2 Joe Foss victories while at Guadalcanal.After 3 missions he was an Ace shooting down 4 planes during his third mission bringing his total to 6.He had an overall total of 26.
 
Joseph Jacob "Joe" Foss (April 17, 1915–January 1, 2003) was the leading fighter ace of the United States Marine Corps during World War II and a 1943 recipient of the Medal of Honor, recognizing his role in the air combat during the Guadalcanal Campaign. In postwar years, he achieved fame as a Brigadier General in the Air National Guard, the 20th Governor of South Dakota, President of the National Rifle Association, and the first commissioner of the American Football League, as well as a career as a television broadcaster.

October 16,1942-Lt.Col.Harold Bauer leads a flight of 18 VMF 212 Wildcats from Espiritu Santo to Guadalcanal. While the rest of his squadron was landing 9 Vals attacked the DD McFarland and a barge unloading fuel and ammo. Even though he was low on fuel he attacked the Vals shooting down 4.For this action he was awarded the Medal Of Honor.

November 7,1942-Joe Foss leads a flight of 7 Wildcats to attack 1 IJN Cruise and several Destroyers.They are met by 6 Rufe Float planes which they dispatch of and than a Pete high over head shows up.Foss destroys the Pete bur his plane is damaged and ditches in the sea.
