my previous joystick (a logitech wingman attack 1) which i got free from a friend who was updating his and has served me well ever since i first received CFS3 has finally died completely:frown:
i have been looking for new sticks on a budget and found one which seemed to satisfy all my needs and for a resonible price
It is called the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas (see http://www.thrustmaster.com/product.aspx?ProductID=149&PlatformID=5)
i was wondering if anyone has had experience or would recommend it and whether it is CFS3/Vista compatible?
thanks

It's plug&play USB, so no worries. Amazon claims it's XP and Vista compatible, so even less worries.

Unless you can afford a Saitek X52....?

And welcome to the site!

Welcome aboard! Good to see another new member to the forum. :)

That stick seems ok, if not a little dog-ugly! As Hairy said, anything usb/xp etc should be ok.
I have the saitek aviator which was inexpensive and has been very good in the years I've had it.
(It also has two throttles which is useful.)

I use a Thrustmaster T1600. I love it. It has a lot of programable buttons(16!!!) and is much more solidly built and precise than the Logitec wingman is nowadays. My only knock on it so far is that the buttons are not in very good positions and take getting used too.

After a longtime love affair with my 1st L.Wingman, it finally died. I then purchased and quickly returned 2 in a row when they went way out of wack in a few weeks. I read that the latest generations are made poorly using crappy parts compared to the older ones.

So I then tried the Thrustmaster. For the price, I don't think you can beat it.

I tried that really nice Saitek setup, but found it was just way to much in the way of size for my taste. It is just so massive! I really didn't like having 2 massive sticks on my desk. It just wasn't worth it to me.

thanks for the help guys!
The saitek aviator looks good, but isn't it a bit fiddly reaching round the back to use the throttles, and are the separate throttles supported in CFS3?

Force and ergonomics

To me :
Nothing without enough boutons on the stick top to command Flaps, guns, cannons, and 360° views, and nothing less than a FORCE FEEDBACK one, I'm addicted !

Yes and yes! :)

Mine has the toggle switches as per the photo. It somehow feels a bit more realistic than buttons, especially as I have the mags and starter mapped to them. It's also great for Spits & Hurris as it has a 'safety' catch on the gun button (thumb operated) and the trigger is mapped to the brakes.

Spend the money and get an X52, and the rudder pedals as soon as the budget catches up again. It is honestly the only way to get a decent "cockpit" layout, at least for a single-engined job. All this twisting the stick lark to control the rudder is hopeless and it messes up your reflexes. Not to mention that you don't have a fine enough degree of control over the rudder - prangs on take-off guaranteed. On top of that, it's got a decent slider for mixture and a wheel for pitch, and another for vertical trim, which is dead useful. You can set it up the way you want reasonably painlessly. The body movements you make will be the correct ones. All these other sticks are just making-do. Honestly.

If you are on a tight budget , as most of us are now days, and you want to get the most for your money when buying a new joystick get the (Logitech EXTREME 3D PRO)

It has 12 programmable buttons and cost about 30 to 40 bucks here in the states

USB, plug and play, and you have the option to use the Logitech profiler, or set it up in CFS3 in control options,
Very good Joystick and i highly recommend it to any one who wants a good joystick at a reasonable price

My last stick was the X52, no complaints here great stick, but did not have the funds to replace it at the time .
