Ju88 Anti-Shipping

swpierce

SOH-CM-2025
Does anybody know what the standard attack profile was for the Luftwaffe when using the Ju88 in the anti-shipping role? Did they perform the near-vertical dive bombing similar to the Stuka or was it more of steep glide? Or did they prefer a fast, more shallow approach without the use of the dive brakes? In the USN our standard maneuver with dumb bombs was to roll inverted to visually acquire the target and then roll back to upright for a steep (but not vertical) attack, but I don't know if the Ju88 was capable of performing this.
I'd like to fly the CFS3 aircraft as the original aircrews were trained.

Most planes of Luftwaffe including heavies like the he177 were used in the dive similar to stuka.

Er, not quite! The Stuka would dive almost vertically, hence its great accuracy. Any clot who tried that in a He177, Do217 or Ju88 was tired of living. It was a general requirement that Luftwaffe bombers be made capable of dive-bombing, but reality often intervened. The marvellously versatile Ju88 was rather spoiled by trying to make it properly able to dive-bomb. Luftwaffe medium and heavy bombers used a rather gentle dive when they tried that, especially the He177!

its was not a vertical dive for the Ju88, I've read something about this in AeroJournal magasine, I'lle try to find the information.
