Just days remaining before my move south....

I've been preparing for this move for months. Quite a daunting task. Packing was no big deal. The challenge (for me at least) has been ensuring change of address notifications, insurance changes, and all the other "loose ends" that could be easily overlooked. Even if I wasn't moving, the entire process has been cathartic. By that, I mean getting rid of so much STUFF has really felt good. All the while I kept saying to myself, "Do I really need this?" And if the answer was "no", I either chucked it, sold it, or gave it away. I managed to sell my Kubota farm tractor with all the implements, M274 Mule, 1985 Chevy truck (which I only used for trash runs), and my tear drop camper. Now, if I can just sell my house! I feel confident it will sell soon. I have resigned myself to the fact the selling price will be ridiculously low; such is the state of the economy.

At any rate, July 7th, I drive away from TN, and head for Sanibel Island, FL. A new start, and totally different lifestyle. Am taking my Rottweiler, "Chief" with me, of course, along with my Siamese cat, "Twist". My other two cats, "Buster" and "Robert Tail" will go to live with my ex. They'll be fine there. I just decided that one cat and a dog was enough to take to my new home (especially since my sister owns it!).

Anyway, I hope to get settled soon, and get back to some flight simming. Well, that is, if I can spare some time away from the beach and the pool!

Well NC you may not be getting much pool and beach time here in the near future! These thunderstorms lately have been terrible. Especially these past 2 weeks, and it only seems to be getting worse. Hopefully by the time you drive down though it will all taper off. It certaintly does do good to get rid of stuff though. I used to be a terrible pack rat. Then one time I was moving and just got tired of moving all the stuff, so wound up giving/throwing it away. Haven't looked back since. Hopefully the drive down on the 7th is a good one. Just be careful on 95 if that is the road you are taking.

Yep, am taking 95, and will definitely be careful. I know FL has been getting much-needed rain! As for it keeping me off the beach, and out of the pool? No problem. Those will become "Land Shark" beer, and flight simming days!

BTW- why not I-75-straight shot down...

I wondered that too when I read that. 75 runs down the west coast of FLA, and can be picked up in the south, probably not that far from you. 95 is the long ways to sister's house! Make sure you give us a progeress report on how things are going!

My mistake. It IS 75 I'll be taking south! Pretty much a straight shot. I plan to drive straight through, leaving here about 3-4 AM on the 7th, to avoid rush hour in Atlanta. I wouldn't wish driving through that city in rush hour on my worst enemy, let alone pulling a cargo trailer. NC

Oopps.. Didn't realize where you were going was on the inner part of Florida. :icon_lol: We took I-75 when we just took our trip to Six Flags over Georgia. At least you might be able to avoid some of those storms. Has mainly been northeast Florida that is getting bombarded with them.

Amen to that! I used to make the trip from Springfield Mo where I was in college to my folks home in Corpus Christi Tx, by catching I35 south out of Tulsa. Part way down, 35 splits and one side goes through Forth Worth, the other side through Dallas. I always took the route through Ft. Worth without much problem, but one day I got confused and wound up on the Dallas side. OOPS! Hit Dallas at rush hour, and took over three hours just to get through town. Sit still in bumper to bumper traffic for 30 minutes, go like hell for 10, sit for another 30. Ugh, will never go through Dallas again if I don't have to....

Atlanta rush hour is equally bad. I'll be pulling a small 4 by 8 trailer behind my Chevy HHR. All the more reason to get through Atlanta before the masses hit the roads. Honestly, as a friend once told me, "I'd rather have a sharp stick in my eye, than go through Atlanta."
