Just installed B.A.T. for Il-2 '46 and all i can say is WOW!! Over 500 aircraft, ton of maps and so much more. Simple to install-(read the manual before you do anything) .Will keep me busy for quite some time. Still love CFS3 and it does some things better than Il-2 and vise-versa . B.A.T. is a must have for any combat flight sim nerd like me. Every era is covered by one sim is not only cool but free to boot. You can find out more at these sites. http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php and http://www.mission4today.com/index.php . Don't mean to offend anyone but there is room for a few select sims other than CFS3. Was so into the whole CFS series i never gave anything else a chance till i got hooked by the Il-2 series. There are some really good sims out there but none compare to CFS3 and Il-2 '46 for what has been done up till now. Will keep me busy for years to come, hopefully . Great job Hanger 19 Team ! Still can't believe all this wonderful work done to CFS2,CFS3 and Il-2'46 and all for free. How neat is that ?

I tried all that - IL-2 is installed somewhere on my computer - but nothing ever quite worked properly...

That sounds a good idea, like CFS3 it has a ton of bewildering mods.

Mind you I have IL2 1946 and install it every now and again but it never lasts long on my pc. There's something 'missing' from it that I never could quite put my finger on.

CFS3 is always close to my heart. Just been into the CFS series so much that i forget that there is anything else out there. Happy to hear that the WOFF Team is working on a WWII version of CFS3.Really like the ETO version,MAW ,Pat's BoB and the PTO versions.Have 9 installs of CFS3 and enjoy each one. Il-2 is great but CFS3 will always be my favorite.Enjoy Il-2 '46 because i can fly Russian aircraft and it has a great mission builder . Much more immersive now than ever before too.The new B.A.T. install is like no other, like CUP on steroids . Simple to install too. Easier to install than CFS3-ETO if directions are followed closely .Took longer to defrag than to install. Pretty large in size but worth it. To top it off it's free to boot. Can't believe these sims have progressed so much over the years ,with more to come.Who would have thought they would be going strong all this time.

if liking the Commie planes, why not get IL-2 BoX series.

Favor Il-2 '46 over the new ones including CLoD. Don't like the gameplay and '46 has way more content-(mods), than any of the new ones. Just like it is hard to compete with CFS3 and all that's been done to it so far. Like the Yak-3 and the La-5/7 series fighters. My favorite aircraft all around is the P-51 and the Hellcat.CFS3 is still my go to sim. When not playing guitar i'm playing flight sims at lease a couple of hours every night or i wake up a couple of hours before my wife and play then. Nothing like CFS3 and a cup of coffee .Time is critical when you're married. Don't want to get the wife mad because you are spending too much time playing and not doing the chores or spending time with her.:banghead::redfire::dizzy:

Thanks for the update. Just in the looooong process of d/l these files. Contrary to others I have always favoured IL2 over CFS3. For some reason I could never quite 'get' CFS3 the way I did with CFS2 or IL2 - I think it starts with the interface and then the F keys in game. Not dissing 3, it is still a good sim just not my 'go to' sim, before I get flamed :redfire:.

Quite the opposite for me: I did buy some IL-2 sims many years ago but never bothered to get used to them. Didn't like the VFX, scenery and some other aspects (but to be honest: I therefore never bothered to update or mod them to the latest standards. Did like the visual damage effects, though. Wish CFS3 was a bit more interesting in that department).
There's one thing though that makes this community different from others: You won't get flamed for having a different opinion!! :encouragement: (Does anybody even remember a thread that got out of hand? That must have been 1-2 server crashes ago!)

Also like Falcon 4.0 BMS and Flaming Cliffs also. Steep learning curve with Falcon but it doesn't get any more realistic than it does. All have their pros and cons. None are perfect but not a lot to choose from in the market today. Gone is the "golden era" but there are still some gems CFS2,CFS3,Il-2 '46, DCS,WOFF,RoF and a few others. There is always room for more. Like sims that can be improved upon though. Nothing compares to CFS3,Il-2 '46,Falcon 4.0 for shear content and fun factor. Not to forget the Strike Fighters series too.

This is my favorite forum of all. The people here are extraordinary, friendly and helpful. Lord knows i don't want to offend anyone here.Just thought i'd share a little info about another sim as some of us play more than one.Regards,Scott ......and yes,i do like Russian aircraft !!

Just to let you know that the size of the entire sim-(Il-2 '46 BAT), is 62.6 GB . Quite large . Best if put on a second drive . If not then outside the program folders for best results. Run Win7 64 bit and have no problems.

Sums up my feelings towards IL2 as well.

Wanted to get the latest in the Il-2 series. A lot of eye candy but doesn't compare to what has been done to Il-2 '46 so far. CFS3 is the same way. You wouldn't want to play CFS3 without adding anything. Look what has been done to CFS3 so far and you will see what i'm saying.Who would have thought all those years ago that we would still be playing these sims ? They each have their pros/cons but together is bliss... With Il-2 i have a fully updated version-(game still being updated),a VP modpack version and a BAT version ,(along with backups on a external drive). I don't mod anything .Just add missions and campaigns and nothing else. With CFS3 i have 9 installs plus OFF BHaH. Need a better computer for WOFF and i'm sure for the WWII sim coming out from OBD . Will never get rid of my favorites-(Il-2 '46 and CFS3), for many years to come.

Greetings...

SixStrings, Am I mistaken, or isn't Il2 B.A.T. just a different way of installing everything you get in C.U.P.? I installed C.U.P. late last year, so I haven't checked out B.A.T. I have multiple installs of Il2, though- C.U.P., DBW, DBW 1916, Ultra-Pack 3.0, but what I've really been impressed with is the VpMod- a lot of maps were repainted, and they were a bit more selective about what was included in it. It seemed to me that a lot of stuff that went into C.U.P. should have been fixed before it was included...

Had a quick look see, don't have time really, but they've ruined the water from what I've seen, what the hell, IL46 had arguably the best water in any combat sim of it's day? Just plain ugly now, and yes it's set at perfect! Correct me if I'm wrong please?
