Just Ordered 2 HDs for PC and Laptop

I just ordered a new HD for each of my computers; one for the Inspiron laptop and one for the XPS desktop. (Funny name for the XPS, it sits behind a door in the bottom of my computer desk, never really seen a tower ON the desktop).

Anyway, I digress......

I am planning to install and load Vista, I know, I know, ............ in preparation for MAYBE getting WIN 7. Both were built to handle Vista.

Question for the computer gurus here......with two separate and distinct HDs, are there any issues to dual booting XP and Vista? I also have a Seagate external backup drive with everything backed up on it.

Sounds good. My PC had a major hiccup today, I think I may have come across a virus. I made backups of everything, and restored Windows and Microsoft Office from my backups. I also have all of my CFS2 backups updated and fully intact.

I hope you enjoy the speed of your new PCs. Perhaps you can break a record in CFS2...your current record is 172 aircraft in a mission!

You know me, give me multi LOD aircraft and I will put them in the sky some place! The Bong and McGuire missions I am working on right now will need some major FR friendly aircraft. General Kenney sent hundreds of bombers with fighter escorts to take back the Philippines. I will be looking for several LOD friendly A-20s, B-24s, B-25s, and P-38s & P-47s.

I am going to download Tango's with SopwithC's FEAAC skins. That should allow for at least another 2-3 flights of 8 aircraft.

Hi DD,
As far as the actual installation is concerned, it's a straight forward process. Start the installation by booting from the Vista DVD and move through the screens until you arrive at the type of installation option. Select [ Custom ] and then select the drive where you want Vista installed. That's really it because the installer will take care of adding the Windows Boot Manager as shown below. Each time you boot the system you can either boot into Vista or XP.

dvslats, thanks.
Both OS are from M$ so I did not think it would be quite that easy.
I have run the compatibility utility from M$ and both computers are fully Vista and WIN-7 compatable, but then, I upgraded both with 4Gigs of RAM and more powerful vid cards, 1Gig Vid RAM on the card in the PC and 512 Megs on the laptop.
CFS2 runs at no less than 70FPS maxed out on all settings even with several a/c in the air and flak. I have had to have Rami tone down some of the missions so that others could run them without a powerpoint slide show.

I had Vista on the laptop for about 18-20 months and really got tired of the boot up and shutdown times. AND all the tweaking that had to be done to it just to make it run efficiently. Eye candy was nice, but if it sacrifices my need for speed, it is gone. So until I got motivated to add on separate HDs, I stayed with XP on both and have been very happy with XP. BUT, I am now to the point of needing to reinstall the OS on both to clean out the crap and left-over junk in the electrons. So I will install the new HDs, everything is backed up on the seagate external, and reinstall a clean XP then a clean Vista on the D: drives of both.

As far as Need For Speed, I have never been happier using Xp. For me all of the tweaking, as you mentioned, is a real PIA. :icon_lol: Add to that the familiarity of Xp...where this is, what does that, and so on. I'm fine with it. :wavey:
