just what IS DSC?

The above discussion also flags an interesting observation: it seems that military and civil simmers think they are to be in two 'camps'. For sure there may be some resource drain from the one or the other development group/developer when starting to work on either genre, but overall I think MOST users in both genres are basically interested in AVIATION ...... and although an airliner merely transports passenger to a vacation or business destination, whereas a bomber transports bombs to drop on some (un)suspecting poor grunt, the operation of the aicraft involves pretty much the same skills. Whether or not it is 'okay' to simulate destroying things.... and humans.... is another discussion which I won't go into here.

But since the above seems to be an accepted 'fact' that Jan and I do NOT necessarily agree with, Jan has started his brandnew news site FlightsimCommunity, with the specific aim to bring BOTH civilian and military simnews to the masses and also to bring both 'camps' a little closer together. Because we believe there is a lot of informtion and passion in BOTH areas of which at least PART can and must be shared, if maybe not everything. :wavey:

We (A2A) looked at the dcs platform and found it was not a viable platform to develop on as it lacks too many features that are present by default in FSX. Plus, the mass market gaming / combat isn't really compatible with the direction of commercial aviation.

Scott.

As well, with a non-existent SDK, no dev support, a constantly changing codebase and management that is difficult and unresponsive... Not worth going there...

(strange that I find myself in agreement with Mr. Gentile...)

Francois?? A mystical question.. Why didnt i know of FSC earlier?? Its fantastic.. Thank you for giving us a link.. :)

I know this much.. I'm not prepared to learn to program in a fairly complex and unwieldly language to make flight models for DCS. Nor am i willing to pay some company to be able to test my work on their platform to insure the quality of my work on that platform as combat pilot wants me to do. Formyself ( personally ) FSX is far from dead. Perhaps MS has stopped making it. They did that with FS9 too, and look at fs9 now?? Its very much alive still.. And with P3D stepping into the void and carrying on the FSx legacy, i highly doubt that i will physically live long enough to see the dissolution of open development flight simming or this community.. DCS is a combat simulator just as flaming cliffs, Fighting Falcon, A-10, and a host of others were. its good for what it does. It doesnt do what i would like it to do..

Because we're still running it in sort of 'Beta' currently....... haven't decided on making a global 'splash' yet :) We are also looking for more editors because right now it is only Jan and me and we have much bigger plans, but that requires resources :kilroy:

Glad you like it so far :)

The one reason I bought the DCS Mustang; Wow, functioning guns, what a concept in a "warbird!" I guess I have diffrent ideas when it comes to accurately simmed aircraft systems. Mud, flying along, scanning all the systems and thinking to himself this is awesome. Gunsight on, check, all systems check, now it's time to fire the guns........nothing! Aren't they a functioning system with in a military aircraft? I'm confused once again, nothing new there!

Did you check out the F-15E? Working guns. Working missiles. Working radar.

So far, the only plane in the world that does this in FSX.... (So far)

Only problem with that is I have about zero interest in shop heaters, evenless in airforce shop heaters. I'm sure it's a wonderful product, I've read the reviews and seen how much everyone likes it but.......if it doesn't have a prop and wasn't flown during WWII I'm probably not that interested. My loss!

I do fly FR Me-262, can't wait for the update, and RAZBAM's Harrier (we called it the "skid mark") /A-6E/EA-6B but that's about it..........
