I won't even bother to go back and find the exact thread this was mentioned in, but around summer of last year I remember a discussion about aircraft we'd like to see built for FSX (yea, there have been quite a few of these) and one of those which someone said was already being developed was the F-100 Super Saber. I hesitate to ask this because I doubt seriously it will ever see the light of day, but does anyone have first-hand knowledge of such a project. . . .and if so, what's the latest? :salute:

Ed,
You must have been reading Chris and my minds lol. We were just talking about the "Hun" and who was developing it and then noticed your thread pop up here lol. I believe that Michael Davies built a model and gave it over to Razbam to do the systems work for it but I believe it is on the back burner over there. Its a shame, we would really like to see the Hun represented well in FSX as Chris's dad was an F-100 pilot with the USAFE Skyblazers.

Yep, same here, I worked on the F-100D and F models right out of Tech School in the late 60's and so I'd also like to see it done correctly for FSX. We can only hope, lol.:salute:

Ed,

It was one of the most beautiful (and intimidating) aircraft ever built... but you already knew that.

Here are some great photos of the F-100s at Bitburg and Wheelus during the 1950s and 1960s. Not sure if you've seen this website, but it is worth looking around....

Wheelus is where I was stationed from 66' to 68'. . . .it was much more built up than what you see in the early photo's. If you go to Google Earth and search "Mitiga", that's Wheelus, present day. I'm afraid that the recent bombing in Tripoli has probably laid waste to that venerable base now as they had a lot of military aircraft there.

Your right, I did start one, one of many projects started and never finished (the master of the great unfinished project someone once called me LOL) along with a Lynx(never happen now as I'm done to death on helos LOL) KC135 and carriers, it was started in partnership with Razbam and by rights when it absolved they had the rights to the source files to carry on as they saw fit. as you say it seems to have dropped to the back of their list, rightly so as they already have a long list of current projects. The only way I'd ever consider revisiting it is as freeware, but that would be up to Razbam to allow that to happen and it would be at my pace and discression, which right now probably won't happen for a good many months, I need an extended forced break from FS modeling to basically see if I miss it and if it is something I want to pursue in the future or need in my life.

Of all the projects abandoned it and the KC are one of a very small handfull of that would drag me back, I am flying more in FS now than I've ever been over the last goodness knows how many years, mostly heavies, some some aircraft interest remains, just not modeling just yet :).

Ohh and I dont do FDEs so they'd be approximations at best LOL, it goes, it stops it feels heavy hits most of the primary figures = good enough for me :).

Hope that helps

Michael

Thanks Michael. Not surprising I guess. . . .if anything at all had been "in process" we would have heard by now, so at least we can forget the Super Saber and work on doing whatever we can to make the few models available a bit better. I haven't flown the "100" in quite awhile, but I'll have to find it and take a look at what I can do to revise or update the VC and maybe finish a few of the liveries I started and never completed.:salute:

It was one of the most beautiful (and intimidating) aircraft ever built... but you already knew that.

But only for mud moving.

I totally hate the F-100 in air combat in Strike Fighters. This thing has no advantages over MiG-17s at all. Except the early Sidewinders. Alias "unguided rockets with an incredibly moody seeker".

I meant intimidating for the pilot flying it.... not flying against it. haha. It was a big step up from the F-86 or the T-33.

However, It was a capable air-to-air fighter, when combined with teamwork and tactics. My father tells stories of massive mock-dogfights against the Navy over Los Angeles in the early 1960s -- the Super Sabres usually won the day. I agree though, in Strike Fighters, the thing is a dog.

I think it would be a sexy machine in FSX.

Cheers,

Chris

lol, Bjoern, Bjoern, Bjoern. . . .love ya man, but you will take any occasion to vent your dislike for the venerable F-100. As Chris has mentioned, his Dad flew them and spoke well of them, I worked on them for 2 years and would have enjoyed another 2 had I had a choice. The pilots I knew who flew them said they were a handful but still a joy to fly.

On one occasion you felt they were inferior to British Fighters and had a less than stellar war record, now it's nothing but a mud-mover because it flies like a dog in a Combat Sim, lol. . . .priceless. Always fun to read your comments mate!! I salute you for your dogged determination. . . :salute::salute::salute:

We stopped doing ours due to the fact that Razbam was doing MD's but... seeing as it hasn't moved.... I am seriously considering... igniting that fire again. I LOVE that plane. Always have.

Don't Tease Me.

Bjoern can say what he wants to about the Hun, but if he had the chance to fly a real one, I know exactly what he would do!! Lol.

And Colin, please set my drop box up for the Hun, I'm waiting. :)

I must say I agree with Ed here, we need a super nice F-100D/F. If you ever miss modelling, let the Hun be it :) Be it Ron or you, any F-100D/F will do.

Thanks

I have had a PM from Ron concerning the F-100, I haven't replied yet (Ron will do so tonight if we are quiet on night shift :) ) as I'm still not convinced getting back in the saddle is the right thing to do, and, this is no reflection on anyone past or present, payware is not something I want to get back into for personal reasons, mainly deadline pressures and others dependant on your progress/completion. I'm also never going to get het up about other double projects, that darn near killed me with worry about lost sales and rushing to shelf last time around, so if anyone else wishes to take up the mantle please feel free :).

Externally the F-100 is pretty much done and could be mapped tomorrow, it still needs gear details and gear well details as well as a cockpit and pilot to finish the externals, then of course the dreaded VC to complete, so model wise externally its not too much work left.

I do also have other advanced projects that may slot in, come behind or in front of any F-100 work, ie I'm not prepared to commit to anything right now LOL.

Attached to refresh peoples minds are images of progress when it stopped.

Kindest

Michael

However, It was a capable air-to-air fighter, when combined with teamwork and tactics.

Tactics yes, but teamwork? In Strike Fighters?
No way.

I'm glad when my wingies manage to engage at all. Other than that they're mostly MiG and SAM bait.

Well, I do what I do, lol.

To be fair, I think F-100 drivers had balls, especially those assigned to wild weasel missions.
"Hey, I see a telephone pole rise at nine o' clock low."
- "Alright, that's our cue. Let's go in, get shot at by tons of AAA, evade some more Guidelines on the way and put a few missiles into the radar(s). Banzai!"

Bjoern can say what he wants to about the Hun, but if he had the chance to fly a real one, I know exactly what he would do!! Lol.

Set up a mockfight with a MiG-17 and complain that he won afterwards? :d

Still a great actor.

The 3D model looks good Michael.... please keep us posted. I think I can understand some of your frustrations with developing work as part of a team... take care of yourself, do whatever you need to to protect yourself and your peace of mind.

If I had three wishes from a magic genie, they would be this:

1. A C model F-100
2. Clean by default -- with the option to add external tanks (or a clean model and a model with tanks)
3. No refueling probe (or a model with and without refueling probe).

Alas, I have no magic genie.
