FS2002/FS2004 Lockheed F-94C Starfire. The F-94 was the United States Air Force's first operational jet-powered all-weather interceptor aircraft. It was a development of the two seater T-33 Shooting Star trainer aircraft. The F-94C Starfire was significantly modified from the early F-94 variants; in fact, it was initially designated F-97, but it was decided to treat it as just a new version of F-94. Initially, USAF interest was lukewarm, so Lockheed funded development themselves. By Kazunori Ito.

... Spotted this at Flightsim today.

Cheers! mike :wavey:

I too have been wanting a Starfire for a long time, I am now trying to get an on/off afterburner effect. Up to the time of posting this I can only get an effect on all the time. I understood that these early afterburners were not very controllable, the engine could run at dry power and when the afterburner lit it was on full? So I expect a long flame at full throttle with the flame going out when I throttle back, any tips gratefully received.

I also have been wanting a good Starfire for some time. I have a CFS2 native Starfire that is not all that great, but it is the only one going. Too bad Mr. Ito prohibits conversions of his aircraft to CFS2, as I know many a Combat Simmer who would love to have their hands on a good Starfire.

When I get around to procuring a copy of FS2004, I will be able to enjoy so many aircraft that you Civil Simmers have at your disposal...including the incredible wealth of Mr. Ito's amazing aircraft. I was looking through all the various planes he has uploaded to Flightsim.com, and that gentleman has produced an entire airforce worth of aircraft.

Here's one I've just done

Starfire1.jpg

I put the DSB afterburner gauge into the 2D main panel [window00] at the bottom of the list:-

gauge60=dsbxml!DSBAburner, 1,1,1,1

and put this line in the light section of the aicraft.cfg file to add Kirk Olsen's afterburner effect:

light.3=6, -21, 0.00, -1.25, fx_F16ko_TORCH_FLAME,

You can use whatever afterburner fx file you like best though. To make sure you see the effect you must cycle the views through the 2D panel. The dsbxml!DSBAburner gauge or similar can be found in several freeware planes; I don't remember which I got mine from but there's a similar one in the DSB YF-22.

Works for me! Hope it works for you.

Thank you Dave. I now have an afterburner that goes out when I throttle back, no modulation, just on/off as I understood early afterburners operated. I made a night takeoff to admire the effect and noticed the red and green lights don't appear but no problem as I usually fly in daylight.

As a boy I remmenber in the summer of 1953 watching the F-94C starfires coming over my house, we lived a short ways from Langley AFB, Va. On open house day I saw a number of F-94Cs on the flightline, and then the weckage of an F-94C that had crashed into Cheasapke Bay....and the biggest thrill was running down the flightline pass row of B-25Js parked.

Cheers

Y'know I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this but just another nice touch by the master...just hit <shift>-E then 2 (toggles 2nd exit) for this neat effect...
Now tell me why do I have an irresistable urge to go look for Tu-4s?:costumes:
Bravo, Ito-san. Bravo.:ernae::applause:

I hadn't noticed the opening rocket covers, can it be done in flight without opening the canopy? On Mr Ito's F-102 the missile bay doors open when the canopy opens.

You know I hadn't tried it until now but in a word...yes.
BTW, no Soviet bombers loitering around in the western Michigan area :(

OK, here's how to load that puppy for Bear:

First, go to FlightSim.com and download Mike Fitzgerald's FS2002 rocket effect and drop it into your FS9 effects folder. The file name is: hwlfrkef.zip

Then patch this into your aircraft.cfg file:

[SMOKESYSTEM]
Smoke.0=0.00, 15.00, 2.00, fx_rocketp
Smoke.1=-1.00, 15.00, 1.00, fx_rocketp
Smoke.2=1.00, 15.00, -1.00, fx_rocketp
Smoke.3=0.00, 15.00, -2.00, fx_rocketp
Smoke.4=0.00, 15.00, 1.90, fx_rocketp
Smoke.5=-1.00, 15.00, 0.90, fx_rocketp
Smoke.6=1.00, 15.00, -0.90, fx_rocketp
Smoke.7=0.00, 15.00, -1.90, fx_rocketp
Smoke.8=-2.00,0.70, 12.00, fx_rocketp
Smoke.9=-2.00,0.70, 12.05, fx_rocketp
Smoke.10=-2.00,0.70, 12.10, fx_rocketp
Smoke.11=-2.00,0.70, -12.00, fx_rocketp
Smoke.12=-2.00,0.70, -12.05, fx_rocketp
Smoke.13=-2.00,0.70, -12.10, fx_rocketp

Now if you can just find a Bear...

Note to self...
Don't shoot the :censored: rockets when parked on the :censored: tarmac!!!!!
Thanks Mick for the tip. Reminds me of my CFS2 days:ernae: Man I love this plane :)
PS: no Bears, Badgers or Bulls there. Oh well...:d

Where do I find the file " F94c_641.zip" discussed above?

Thanks for the help!

Now seeing as how the first model airplane I built in 1958 was an Aurora F-94C Starfire, I just have to have that!

Thanks for the rocket effect info Mick.

Ito usually uploads to Simviation.com and Flightsim.com. You should find it there, search "ito starfire"....:ernae:

It can be found on Flightsim.com.

Now that I have Fs2004, I really need to grab Ito's Starfire, the Alpha Sim UFO and reinact the UFO/Jet encounter I saw profiled on UFO Hunters on night. Seems as though a Starfire was scrambled out over one of the Great Lakes to investigate an unidentified radar contact. The radar showed the blips for the plane and the UFO merging then disappearing from the screen.

I remember reading an article on line some time back that the plane has been found, and something close to the plane that has not been identified, but is speculated to be a craft of other-worldly origins.

Go to the FlightSim Main Menu after you log-in and open the Search File Libraries option in the Main Menu. Type in F94c_641.zip in the File name window and click start search.
