A compliment to your Excellant prop rendition,s

******* Wow found Unknown Pr-Hg -- *******
Pitch increment for climb --

We all know you loose torque at high speed ,
what this does is transfer more torque at
less prop speed ,, Strickly a climb Attribute ,
It makes for better reality , cause now
you can slow the prop speed -- from high = 100%
to roughly = 90% and pull
more climb ability , maintain better climb speed ,,
and climb faster , than you can at full throttle
high prop speed , simulates a change in prop pitch ,
What seems to work best is -18.0---to -22.0
whether it changes prop pitch , or tip,s the
aircraft balance = COG I don,t know , but it
work,s ,,
I,m guessing a change in prop pitch molly !!

Disclaimer ---!!
(( remember different planes have variable
engine to Prop -- Ratio,s ))
and of course not to be used on the
Watt,s Prop Hurricane !
Fixed pitch wood prop 2 blade

Max RPM climb drops speed faster ,
where as 90% RPM maintain,s better climb ,,

This does not change prop speed , You have to bring ,
the prop back manually , adjust trim pitch for climb
checking your mixture at altitude gain,s ,

During climb out

If you go to Max prop speed , the power and speed
of climb rate drop back ,,
Back to 90% RPM and
your climb speed goes back up ,,

Does this mean you have faster speed than 100 %
RPM ?
No ,, not if your properly trimed for level
flight , Max Rpm on my Spitfire climbed to 350 mph
and going back to 90% RPM droped back to 332 mph ,,
Seem,s to work quite well ,,

I,m not a pilot , but my old boss , a Dutch mechanic
was a private pilot , and I got to fly with him
a couple times , and he explained take off ,
prop pitch , and how variable props work ,,

Leiston Airfield -- Take off
-- test 1

-- Clock up
Timed roll out --
UN- TRIMED
Trim -Pitch = Stock setting
Full Throttle
Prop Pitch = 90%
Flaps = half runway
Lift off secondary cross runway 120 Mph -
Wheels up + flap up
Climb out stick control --
Adjust mixture for climb
4 minutes duration + paused

Altitude = 4,256 ft --

Test 2

-- Clock up
Timed roll out -- (+5.0 Sec,s Cheat)
UN- TRIMED
Trim -Pitch = Stock setting
Full Throttle
Prop Pitch = 100%
Flaps = half runway
Lift off secondary cross runway 110 Mph -
Wheels up + flap up
Climb out stick control --
Adjust mix for climb
4 minutes duration + paused

Altitude = 3,921 ft --

Basically a test to see if the changes effect take off
roll-out , and to see if a canned routeen was used
by M$s for take off --

Disclaimer --
All testing done at 75-% Sim Rate !!
which allows, me to moniture test results
easier !!

A couple of lines to post to air Edd Inni file ------

Optional of course !!

11=40,double,*Prop Pitch Torque at 90% RPM
11h=Usually 1.0 if Turbo/old/ 90% P-Pitch = (-18.0/-22.0)

Or dissregard and stay with a constant speed prop !
At your option of choice Sir ,

Your welcome Blood Hawk , got some time to test the Hurricane , for climb rate , and clocked in 8 minutes flat , airfield to 20,000 ft ,, which I thought was a tad on the hot side ,, checking stat,s called for 8.2 minutes , but that may be running from sea level ,, Still rather surprized me as the Hurry was 800 lbs heavier , smaller engine , less boost, and less Man pressure , and higher engine to prop ratio ,,

I think the wing has alot to do with it. Wasn't the Hurricane's wing a better lifting wing then the Spitfire. I thought I had read that some where.

Got some time to run , comparrison tests , against a Spit II A , -
Major changes their -- 13.5 minutes to 20,000 ,, took a while to sort that out , -- But well worth the effort , 8"+30 secs
Gave more insite on climb factors , Now I have a better grasp on how the sim handel,s vertical motion , and that means I can operate on the rest of em ,
Blood Hawk , a couple of points I,ve found , make me think , the Hurricane wasn,t as bad as people portray it ,
Peter Townsends book , In that the Spitfires were alway,s late to rondiview altitude , having left from the same airfield ,
And he marvel,s at the lone Spitfire , that manages to climb with them ,
It,s what he doesn,t say , that leaves question,s , Was he using a Hurricane -IIA and were the Spitfires Claped out IA,s -- and was the
lone wolf Spitfire a New replacement -- IIA

British Documentary , Brit pilot describing the BOB memorial
Spitfire vrs the Hurricane , The Hurricane does have an edge
on the Spitfire ,s Turn Radius ,,

Still toying with effects , and I,m going to amend the Inni file ,
Sec505
11=40,double,*Prop Pitch Torque at 90% RPM
11h=Usually 1.0 if Turbo/old/ 90% P-Pitch = (-10.xxxx)

seems to reflect the percentage of Prop speed drop ,
for climb ,,

Altering section
508
unit 4 --- RPM -Torque is the candy store -- if you want to tailor
climb to known spec,s ---

The Cfs-1 throttle props , a little easier to tag the 10 % drop
on vertical scale , vrs the Cfs-2 push me pull knob ,,
3 to 4 key board click,s should get you 10 % drop in
Prop speed ,

Hurricane IIAs and Spitfire IIAs didn't start to reach front-line service until the end of the Battle, late September/early October.
85 Sqn, because of losses in France, was mostly equipped with MkIs fitted with Rotol props and Merlin IIIs throughout though.

Thanks, Sarg!

Duly printed out and placed in my "CFS2 secrets" book!

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Cheers!

Kelti , I hope your as stuffed as I am ,
Pursueing the Zero , A6M2 , twas a real nut cracker , to fix ,

Hewman , thank,s for the infoe and your opinoin on Hurricane ,

since the Spit 1A had fabric aileron,s till the Mk V entered production , Bader in 612 had his mark IIA fabric aileron,s changed at factory to
metal Mk V ailerons , and raved about the handeling differences , then had the sqd flown in piecemeal to factory for upgrade , s
Were not the Hurricanes Fabric too , You,d think that such an improvement as metal Aileron,s , would have been , added to the Hurricane line as well , I,ve never came across a mention of it though ,,

Had a crack at the B-24 Libby , to see what prop pitch can do ,
The last time I flew from Leiston , I had to slew back to base perimeter, to try and get lift off , heavey bomb load ,
Not any more , runway start point , to end of runway ,
lift off speed 100 Mph , and a steady climb out at 145 mph ,
Just as effective on Multi props ,,

Hi Sarg

Just a sanity check -

What you're describing above is an edit/addition to the configuration settings file for AirEd, right?

(And great discovery by the way - should have said that first!)

Cheers

yes Buv the second one

So far Iv,e nailed about seven different planes with this , and got excellant results,
Two hard cases from CFS-2 turned up Zero A6M2 , and the Wild cat so far ,, The Zero I finally fixed , working on the Cat now ,,
