Kennedy Space Center Scenery

For various reasons we tend to focus on aircraft and don't pay much attention to scenery. I was poking around and saw this scenery is now available in the MSFS Store. There is some information about it here - https://fselite.net/content/kennedy-space-center-releases-for-msfs/

It is interesting that you get to choose between 3 scenery time periods / sets. The developer (TerraBuilder) also states that an additional set (SpaceX pads and "real" launches) will be coming. Sounds interesting, but it seems all recent product launches are "half baked". (I will probably buy this because in the winter season, FL is my backyard.)

Sounds interesting, but I'd never use the Shuttle/Apollo time periods, so paying $30 for three sceneries, two of which would never be used, would be a waste.

There are also freeware sceneries on the .to site for anyone that wants some basic enhancements. Just use the scenery map to find them.

Interesting this should come up.

I caught this great video from the Starfighter Aerospace guys based at Kennedy. It inspired me to download the freeware Space Centre scenery from .to and the black TF-104 livery. The freeware scenery matches the hanger area where these guys operate from pretty well.

Piercarlo Ciacchi is an excellent presenter and his various videos are great.

Even though not all of us agree on the relevance factor, I'm turning this into a sticky. It's a new addon, so there you go.

It's fantastic! They're already working on the first update and have been super receptive to suggestions. The detail is amazing, and I've spent a decent amount of time at the real KSC. (Saw a Shuttle launch and the Orion EFT-1 test launch.) The update's going to add to the already crazy level of detail by adding stuff like animated tracks on the crawler. (Which already moves between the VAB and pad.)

Down the road they're going to add animated launches as well.

Currently only shows up in FS2020; dev is still waiting on MS to process it for 2024.

(Also, note that Redwing also has KSC scenery in two parts that has less detail than this one.)

Love to see this in 2024. Probably not until MS gets the Marketplace up an running. Animated crawler tracks would be killer, although in real life it moves very, very slowly. Need people figures round the activity areas.

Amazing.

On my hard drive. Flew around the area several times today and it is well done. Great shot dvj.

Make it stop. I'm on vacation with only a phone and a week away from my sim pc. You're killing me! :p:giggle:

Pity there's nothing close to a business jet that could be a decent stand-in for the GIII STA. Though a NASA C-9B repaint of the SkySimulations DC-9 would be lovely .... :)

Hi Everyone!

I'm the lead developer on TerraBuilder's Kennedy Space Center Scenery. I just wanted to thank everyone for the kind comments, and give you all a sneak peek of the features that we are working on for the next update: on-demand dynamic rocket launches! The launch physics are completed!! We have all the launch parameters for:
  • custom rocket launch sound
  • engine fire sequence
  • thrust buildup
  • liftoff
  • azimuth roll
  • pitch maneuver
  • gravity turn
We are now working on the launch infrastructure animations and 3D asset materials for the launch effects (shown in the screenshot, SRB plume and SSME plume), and the next stage will be custom plume VFX.

Check out some of the WIP screenshots, and stay tuned for more updates!

My man! those look incredible! Where's a WB-57 when you need one to shoot that footage! :)

Amazing. Brings back memories of the good old simNASA days, flying missions in FS9 and Orbiter 2008!

Will the orbiter be a visual effect only, or will it be pilotable? I've travelled to all the NASA facilities in real before, so if you need any testers (FS2020), I'm happy to help.

Mitch / TerraBuilder - Your work is appreciated by many of us. Your WIP shots look fantastic and I'm looking forward to seeing them in my sim. I hope you will also model the current SpaceX equipment. I know Starship isn't launching from FL yet, but this is a simulator! Thanks for your work.

Thanks! This package is a scenery-only package, and it features static objects that are given visuals and a flight path which are intended only to act as dynamic visuals. However, our in-development project titled SpacePort will be a full-featured space flight add on. We developed it for P3D (video here) and intended to port it to MSFS2020, but unfortunately had to shelve it because MSFS2020 had a hard altitude limit of ~85 km, not even Von Karmann line. MSFS2024 removed that limit, and we are now back to porting it to MSFS2024.

Aside from what's in the video linked above, SpacePort will let 3rd party developers launch their spacecraft to orbit. So, for example, Captain Sim's Orbiter will be able to launch into orbit using SpacePort, stay and perform tasks, de-orbit and land.

Thanks Jay, very kind of you! SpaceX is in the pipeline, but it may not make it into this first update, as we have the on-demand launches as our first and top priority (that has been asked for by many current and potential customers). But rest assured, it will be added, as we already have the SpaceX infrastructure (or at least, the beginnings of it) on the Pad 39A In the Artemis Era.
