Ki.43 IIb 24th Dokuritsu Chutai for OH Oscar

I'm posting another skin for the campaign I am currently working on - 21 missions in so far.

This is a repaint for the B24 Guy's overhauled Oscar.

Ki.43 IIb possibly from the 24th Dokuritsu Chutai (Independent Fighter Squadron). Found unserviceable on Clark Field, Philippines 1944.

Many of the Japanese aircraft wrecks found in the Philippines after the fighting bore no unit markings. The action was too intense for Japanese crews to have time to paint insignia on planes. The fought them and lost them as fast as they could be ferried from Formosa.

This skin is based on a Sentai 78 IL-2 skin with much additional painting. Much of the credit should go to the original author.

Thanks Captain.

Whenever I was at the Old Clark Airbase (outside of Angeles City on Luzon) I always looked up in the sky and wondered what it must have been like there during WWII. Following the war, it was rebuilt into one of the most lovely of all the Air Force bases extant and was a stop off and refueling point for many missions going into SE Asia until Mount Pinatubo destroyed it in 1991. I was back there in 2005 and it has been largely rebuilt as a customs free business center.

Clark Air Base aside, thanks again for another great skin for the old Oscar.

Here is an Oscar I photographed at the Heritage Museum of Flight in Everet, Washington last month. It came from New Guinea and is unusual in that it is a very early model of the Ki 43.
