Kill Claims - How are YOU doing them?

:welcome:
When you fill out YOUR kill claim, how are you doing it? I know you guys will have some some creative ways. What narrative information do you add in your claim descriptions? How are you keeping track of your flight mates?

I've been jotting down my flight members on a pad for later. And in the description, I'm keeping it short and sweet. I'm wondering if you shoot down an ace if it's important to list his name.

I usually say something like:

"Enemy aircraft brought down out of control 2 miles North East of Arras around 15:45."

Of course, I haven't been too successful, so maybe I need to change it.

I've had about 75% of my claims confirmed so far (including a balloon Gimpy :ernae:) and I've been putting down what airfield the E/A came down near. ie Craft destroyed, seen to crash south east of Vermois airfield.

In witness area I put down the pilot name, space hyphen space rank.

In the notes I add "Out of Control" or "Down in Flames" as appropriate. I also add "seen to crash" when appropriate. I have added "Exploded" for balloons and one plane.

I do not put down location other than vague and when known {near aerodrome for scramble missions}. I do not know how to find out what the nearest aerodrome or city is, so I haven't put those in.

I also use one line for each claim.

I keep a notepad with flight member names. And I note the date/mission and results and add them to a pilot history since the Pilot Dossier is a little flubbed right now {supposed to be fixed in 1.2}.

Im not so expierienced with it, `cause I still practice targeting:173go1: but I just fill it out, even in 1 on 1 i get 50% of my claims.

Edit: I think I was a lucky one on the above. Shot down 4, filled in 4, and guess what? Right! None of them were confirmed. These days were hard for Fighterpilots!

Rockmedic,

On the in flight map put your mouse cursor over on of the airfield symbols and the name of the airfield with be displayed.

I just had my fourth out of four confirmed!:bananajump: He's the only pilot I've been able to keep alive long enough.

What I did was prior to flight, write down the name of the wingman and one other pilot. (I've got almost two pages of them as I get new names when my pilot dies). When the claims form comes up at the end, I just put the wingman's name in the "witness" block, the quantity and the A/C type, if it's available in the drop down, otherwise as close of a description as possible. Finally, in the narrative, I put something like "shot down in flames one D.V from Jasta 28w"

Thanks Scott!!

It'd be nice if we could do the same with towns. Might be a lot of work, though and I am already checking four times a day to see if 1.2 is out. I really look forward to the Claims Page and Log Book fix.

Well, you can write down the latitude and longitude values displayed in the infobox (Z) or in map view (M) and
type in the coordinates in Google map or Google Earth. So you will find the exact location on a real map - assuming the game data is correct.
(for example: 2.5 miles SE of Whatever).

Hmmm, maybe you guys can tell me what I'm doing wrong. I started out writing down the names of squad mates so I could later list them as witnesses. Six of six claims rejected. Since then I have given up and just listed the number (never more than "1") and the aircraft type and left the rest blank or the default whatever. Now another eight actual, zero confirmed. Bummer. What's the best way to get your kills confirmed? I mean, I respect the attempt at realism and all but...hehe...I can't imagine too many real pilots shooting down 14 planes and having none confirmed.

So does it matter if you write in witnesses? Must their names be spelled correctly? Does the sim actually compare the names I type in with the names of my squad mates to see if I'm lying? Does it help to list nearby airfields or other landmarks? What's the best way to get some confirmations?

I'm still flying and having fun and assuming I won't get confirmations, but it would be nice for the sim to keep track of my "actual" kills so I can keep tabs. Thanks.

It's not bothered me entirely. Claims vs confirmed kills are unimportant as you the player know that your claims are kills. Unless you've been filing erroneous reports:whistle:.

I've gotten confirmations with narratives as short as :

Driven Down out of Control / Driven Down OOC
Driven Down In Flames
Forced Down / Forced landing

as well as to include a squadron witness.

Lately i've been filing very detailed reports (like back from my RB3D days) using von toms CM 1.1/variants.

Using the short narratives, I was getting about 75% or more of them confirmed. The few that weren't were ususally deep behind enemy lines anyway.

I've only recently started filing 'colorful' reports so I will have to wait and see how they fare.

Cheers!

11 claims, 1 confirmed. I've lost at least 3 to greedy squadron mates. Wish it would say who they are and wish there were labels on each a/c, as I'd probably shoot down the cur who false claimed.

BaronmyBuns,

In version 1.2 there will be 3 settings for claim reports.

1st setting : The one as it exsist now.

2nd setting : Claims are confirmed at a much higher rate (75% I think I read)
3rd setting: Auotmatic confirmation.

That should really make everyone happy.

Yes it's a bit disheartening when you have busted your guts and shot down 6 in one mission with witnesses and then have them all rejected. Some of them were even over a freindly airfield and that was in a N17 on 100% realism.

Some good ideas here guys!

Someone on a Phase 2 thread said they had a dry-erase board at their desk for keeping track of their squadron pilots, removing and adding their names as needed. When flying he'd check-mark the ones in his flight. Quite a neat bit of immersion, I'd say.

Yeah, I think I screwed up on my last two claims. I listed my normal wingman as the witness. However, when I fired up the next mission, I saw he was on leave. I don't know if he just started or if he was on leave when I listed him as the witness. Hopefully he was watching from the ground and wasn't too distracted by Nurse Gladys! :a1089:

I decided to keep a flight journal for each country I fly for. Have just started doing this. It takes a little time but so far I like it and I don't worry about remembering everything. Have yet to figure out just what I want or need to write. As far as claims are concerned I wonder if in report you indicated the approx. Latitude and Longitude would increase your approval %. My active flyer is Victor Frankl flying for the fatherland, Jasta 3, September 1915, Fokker EIII. Three missions completed first day of action. Claimed one downed (crashed) Bristol Scout. Flying 100% real with minimal aids, mostly labels when needed.

Wow, RICKITYCRATE - the Eindecker! The hardest bit to do in this sim.
I will work my way backwards. I have started in 1918, with late Albatros D Va. (Don't like the D VII yet, but must do some day).
The I'll go to 1917, first half, and 1917 second half. After that comes the Albatros D II in later 1916; and at last the Eindecker time.

I wish you luck with it - remember Udet, and let yourself be guided by his way. He's one of the few, who made it through the WHOLE damn war!

Yes, Udet is my example to follow. It is hard to imagine what he accomplished. And his planes were similarly skinned throughout those years too, hehehe. Good luck in your approach.
