KSMF Sacramento freeware scenery

Dang...another pretty good looking piece of software ruined by a buggy installer, with no options of where to put the dam' thing.
File 13, then...

Did I mention I have this thing about installers??

I've got the Mach-1 version of Sacramento ......

Looks great! I spent 4 and a half years flying into KSMF weekly, and this scenery really does the place justice.

Installed, in spite of the auto installer, but I'm not happy with it. I'll stay with the Mach-1 version. The only problem is, how the heck to I UNinstall the new freeware? There doesn't seem to be that option. Normally I don't even mess with something I have no installation control over, but this time....well PHOOEY! Any ideas out of this mess?

er,the old fashioned way...via the settings--scenery library
on my system the 2 folders are in the add-on scenery folder,
SMF2008 and SMF2008_LC

hope this helps

Thanks, Pete. I couldn't find the scenery in the 'usual places', but a little searching and POOF! it's gone.

Like yourself I have the two folders SMF2008 and SMF2008_LC in the add-on scenery folder, but how do you find the entries in scenery library list? I've scrolled up and down and up and down... no luck. Any ideas?

Cheers.

Just redownload. The server doesn't like to wait for you to long, and will just send a placeholder. When you redownload, just overwrite the original. I get this quite often, at lots of different sites, including here at the SOH, especially when the servers are busy.

Agung, SMF2008 and SMF2008_LC are located way down in the scenery file list, rather than the top. That's how I overlooked them.

It also installs one effect file, "fx_strobex" in the effects folder. I renamed my FS9 root, make a new dummy one with addon scenery and effects folders, plus a dummy scenery.cfg and, just in case, a dummy fs9.exe before re-running the installer. After all that, the installer ran fine and there was nothing installed other than the two addon scenery sections and the effect.

Now here's the funny part. The original d/l is 35.7 MB. I zipped up the extracted files with Zinzip, then dropped in the pdf readme, and that zip came out to only 33.2 MB. I guess the installer file has a bunch of other code that bloats it, or it's a type that doesn't compress very well...

I wouldn't worry about the installer trying to hide something. Andrew McKeown built the installer and he's an admin over at the POSky forums.

Thanks for replying Bob, problem solved. :isadizzy: But not the way you'd expect.

Wanna hear it? Initially the installer had installed the scenery BUT not activated it, that's why I couldn't find the entries in the scenery file list... and yes your suggestion to search at the bottom of the list is a good one, have experienced this in the past.
I activated the scenery, loaded it and there was absolutely no difference between the activated and the non-activated scenery.
Deactivated the scenery and deleted the two folders in the addon scenery and am now back at MS default. Makes you wonder what some of these installers are for

Thanks for your time :icon29:
