Landclass Query

Hi guys...what's best w/ landclass files? Putting them in Scenery/base/scenery or placing them in the addon/scenery or making a file for all of them and adding them to the sim via the usual addon scenery method? Or does it all vary depending on the scenery?
One thing about FS9 is there's always something to learn. I'm about to do a compete re-install in the next few days so I'd like to get it all right the first time. My present install has quite a few haphazard paths of scenery installation and it makes it difficult to track problems. This time I will
categorize the scenery stashed outside of the sim itself by countries and make sure that all the folders are titled correctly so I know what's what. I've had a bad habit of batch installing or installing smaller sceneries thru the addon/scenery method but every time there's a problem it's real hard to find where it is. Over the last few days I'm finding thru advice from other members
that a lot of the ways I've been doing things especially with various object files and landclass files that I've been creating all kinds of slowdowns in the sim. I know that FS9, when first installed on this machine, runs flawlessly but over a period of time it gets to be a drag..I spend most of my time tracking down maladies. Anyway, all tips and advice will be appreciated. I've been goofing with this sim since '04 and can always learn something new.....mid

After many frustrating scenery problems not quite knowing where things were put, I am a solid believer in managing sceneries by folders wherever possible via addon scenery. If a problem appears I only have to un-check the folder to isolate the source. That said, I always thought that for the three scenery parts, mesh, landclass, and scenery they should be numbered mesh-3, landclass-2, and scenery-1 with several authors indicating this layering as correct.

As for the general heirarchy I am still unsure but the above seems to work well. I too would like to know the priorities of the nam files, scenery/world/scenery, addon scenery, etc. I believe addon sceneries take precedence with addon scenery/scenery and addon scenery/texture top of the list, but that is just a reasonable guess. Like you said, always something to learn.:mixedsmi:

For an in-depth workout you can install 9Dragon Kai Tak airport scenery. They actually did a very good walk-through of the process.

You can place land class files in just about any active scenery folder as long as that main folder does not also contain a "texture" subfolder.

We've settled on a stand alone independent folder for our packages that gets added to your scenery library like any other addon scenery. That folder however should go below any of your other addon sceneries to ensure the correct layering of the scenery.

As mentioned above, this also isolates those files to one area where they can easily be removed if needed.

Also, there seems to be an ordering system to land class files based on their file names. This only comes into play when you have more than one land class file for a given area. So how that factors into where you actually place the files could also be an issue. That's just an FYI on that bit.
