Landing lights

Good evening friends,
I have an airplane which has not medeled in the landing lights.
Via the landing lights switch I can swith on the landing lights
But they are only visible as "normal" light with out ground lightning effect.
Does some one know how to have the landing lights ground lightning effect even if not in the
model?
Thank you in advance
Best regards
Michael

Since you say the lights are not part of the model I assume that they are defined in the Lights section of the aircraft.cfg

Make sure that the light effect that is being called if fx_landing and that the light is type 5.

This is the landing light of the Lear 45 as an example
light.6 = 5, -29.7, -1.3, -1.71, fx_landing

Good morning Gavinc,
thank you for your reply.
Yes I have the landing lightss in the aircraft.cfg / lights entries
and as class 5 and usung fx_landing - no illumination at the runway
Best regards
Michael

do remember to also check that the fx_landing is indeed in the effects folder of your FS9 install; failing that, another option to try: perhaps replacing the said file with the original from your disks in case of a potentially errant file-modification/corruption

good evening friends,
the effects fx_landing is indeed in the the effects folder of my FS9
When I switch on the landing lights they are well visible on the plane as same as the position lights.
But they do not have any lightning effects as a real landing light as to spot or illuminate te runway in front of the plane
Seems that fs9 needs the landing light function to illuminate the runway build in the model
I hoped there will be another solution
Best regards
Michael

Hi WB,
certainly interesting, but (there are allways "but"s
a) as I do only freeware I can not use payware parts
b) our family budget is so restrictive that paying for flightsim stuff would create a palace revolution lol
Best regards

Funny you should write that because the A2A WOP Heinkel 219, you posted in regards to, in the other thread, is also payware...just sayin' ;)

...so I only hope that the family budget restrictions for flightsims are a current thing, and, was not always the case, i.e. in the past when you presumably had funds for the requisite desired purchases, like the He 219 ;)

cheers!

I've found that to have the landing light beam(s) show up on the ground you need to add attach points in the plane's .mdl file using the "fx_landing.fx" effect with the ".fx" suffix removed. See my screen shot from ModelConverterX. This gives you your default landing light source from the wing or wheels and also tells the sim to show the ground illumination beam when the plane gets to a certain altitude. I know "just enough" about using MCX to discover this stuff. :biggrin-new: Apparently there is also some way for the ground illumination beam to swing out from below the plane if the landing light is animated to drop down from under the wing but I have no clue what kind of animation entries make that happen.

Hi Wb,
when I was at work I had the double of income than now as retired
And half the gain - - -
And when I was at work I had my own budget for me - now with the familly charges thing are a lot different.
I will not plain about, things are as they are.
There was a time where I did not spend a lot for eating but bought some payware. now I try to find out to make things with out payware.
Some times I came to more interesting outcomes than the originals LOL

Appreciate the clarifications Michael! Glad to know! Have been in the same boat for a while now, as you were in once: spending lunch/dinner money on payware - MSFS is very addictive. Hopefully, @TARPSBird's MCX advice works out for you!

best,
wb

Good evening friends
thank you for your advices I tried to see with mdl converter. Definitively I do not have the knowledge for that.
Bof, doesn't matter. For the plane I needed them - who does fly this plane at night.
My topic are the panels and sometimes I can do some gauges. I must recognize my limits - end of the flagpoole.
Best regards
Michael
