Le Mans 24 hours 2010 underway!

Turned it on just in time to see Mansell's crash.

Will be watching on and off all day.

The #3 peugeot that started from pole postion is out with suspension failure; the lead Audi spun and crashed and dropped from fourth to seventh.

Still three Peugeots leading three Audi's, two Aston Martins and another Audi.

Now only two Peugeots in front followed by three Audi's; is the reliability going to win this one for Audi again? Interesting to see the last remaining Matech Ford GT leading the LMGT1 class by almost two laps on the first Corvette.

The in-car view of the Peugeot as it races trough the night is simply amazing; lapping at an average of 145+ mph with only a few tracklights and your own headlights while avoiding the slower cars....

Thanks for the links Ferry

Around here le Mans is all but ignored in the media...
Brilliant live feed, just look how smooth he is.

Which car is Anthony Davidson driving for?
I seem to remember they were 2nd on the grid, so now leading?.
Ah, no...6th

Peugeot ran into trouble during the night, so now the #9 Audi leads with a 1 lap margin over the #8 audi, but the #1 Peugeot is only 15 seconds behind and pushing really hard, doing 3:20 lap after lap. Don't think they can catch the #9 audi unless it has problems but there are still over two hours to go.

The #1 Peugeot is now in the pit after crawling very slowly round the track with what seems to be an engine problem..

I'm enjoying it on the Eurosport channel here in the UK (full race coverage) with a case or two of beer :icon29:

Been there several times in person, nothing like the roar of the racing corvettes.

Looks like Audi will get 1,2,3 as the No 1 car has now been retired

The fourth and last Peugeot, the privately entered Matmut 908, has just retired, also with an engine problem..

One of two remaining Astons blew his engine, both kolles R10TDi's are gone too. Audi now 1,2 and 3 and 29 laps ahead of the #4 car.

Fantastic 1,2,3-finish for Audi, once again proving that speed is nothing if you don't have the reliability. Nine wins for Audi in eleven years now (Ten if you count the Bentley win too, as that car was basically an Audi R8 with a roof).

Funny, I tuned in to Radio le Mans halfway through the race, to hear them talking about reliability.
One of the commentators asked Audi's McNish how it was going, he said "the Peugeots are really quick".
Then the host said he wouldn't be surprised if Audi was concentrating on finishing the race rather than outright speed.
Isn't that just le Mans?
First, you have to finish the race.
Exactly half of the field did not, including Peugeot.
