Lest We Forget

Lest we forget what they went through, suffered and endured; day after day, year after year in two world wars. Because of that, I and so many more of my generation have never had to go to war, and my children have (so far) grown up in peaceful times.

Lest we forget.

There are just 3 British servicemen alive today that served in the Great war. By coincidence they are each from the 3 arms of the services, Army, Navy and Flying Corps.

It'll be a sad day when these men leave us as then this catastrophic world event will slip out of living memory and be consigned to the history books.

We will remember them.

Very true Pat, but I also think of all the Vets, especially those in WWII to whom we pay homage to here. Every year they also become fewer and fewer.

I look at the troops today in a very different kind of war, their sacrifice for us not so obvious to the majority of the public. Will they be honoured in the same way as their comrades from the World Wars?

if anyone's down at Wargrave, I'm in the Sea Cadet Colour guard for the remembrance parade.

I must say, visiting the battlefields changes your entire perspective on their sacrifice. sort of makes you feel kind of insignificant in the scale of things (especially the war graves)

You know right now the veterans of WW2 and 1 are becoming so few. Unfortunately this incredible piece of world history is dissapearing fast, my great grandfather flew Fw190's for the Luftwaffe and I can't tell you how much I would have wanted to hear his stories. Each time one of them passes incredible untold stories will go with them. Wow I really wish someone would make a book full of their stories.
