During WW II spotter aircraft were flown from both US carriers as well as LSTs with improvised 200 ft wood decks. This is the first of several photos I will be posting can you guess the aircraft type, and "Operation" the aircraft was involved in.

This first photo was taken 11/09/1942 and the aircraft is taking off from the USS Ranger. Note the type of star on the fuselage.

:kilroy:O-1 Driver, that's a Piper L-4 and it's Operation Torch. Remember, the P-40's were delivered by the Ranger sometime after the actual invasion. Will we see those?:d

The Ranger actually launched P-40's off the coast of Africa for Accra on May 10,1942 ( 68 P-40's ) and July 19,1942 ( 72 P-40's ).These were headed to China and the Flying Tigers.

Febuary 23,1943 - 75 P-40's were ferried to Casablanca.

These would probably fit in better for MAW.
There will be Carrier ops in the new update though,Operation Leader where Ranger attacked German shipping in the N.Atlantic, and Operation Dragoon.

Lst 906

Photo of a Piper L-4 taking off from LST 906, the LST flight deck was 220 ft long and 16 ft wide.

The LSTs equipped with the improvised flight decks saw action in landings in Italy and Southern France but not Normandy.
