SOH-CM-2024
Libyian airfields, British and German, March 42

Originally started as the RAF airfield at Gambut (actually a complex of 5 airfields but you get just one for the moment),
things just sort of grew and you now get a few German airfields also.
Gambut, L139, is about 30 mile's east of Tobruk.
Ain el Gazala, L146, one of the German airfields is abot 40 miles west of Toburk
Benina, HLLB, also in German hands, near Benghazi.
These airfields changes hands a number of time's during the see-saw battle's of the Desert campain 41-42
but we visit these around March 42, Gambut would soon fall to the Afrika Korps by May 42, before the Alamein offensive
of Oct 42 finally pushed German force's west and out of Libya

Now for the objects--
"Malta-42" scenery by me. "UT-Library objects FS9" my conversion of UncleTgt CFS2 object's, and Wofi Library Objects.zip (converted to FS9 by Desert Rat)
all can be found in the SOH FS9 scenery library

Thanks too--
Bf-109 object by Fulbert from Akemi Mizoguchi original
Ju87 object by Fulbert from Alpha original
P40 object by J R Lucariny with texture's by Sopwith Chameleon (original read-me's included by request)
Edmundo Abad's vehicle's converted to FS9 scenery objects by Shessi

There's also a basic traffic file for the German airfields using John Young's JU52 transpot, found at MAIW works,
Look for Home/Downloads/File Library/Aircraft Models (FS9)/AI Junkers Ju 52 - German, Swiss & French livery (JYAI)
You'll need to add my quick and dirty Mediteranean theater paint found in the zip and the below details to the ai JU52 cfg

If you have Tim "Piglet's" Conrad's LRDG Chevy, avialable in the SOH library, ive included a couple of start's for any raiding you may want to do.
SAS/LRDG1 is concealled in a wadi about 5 mile's south of the airfield at Gazala
SAS/LRDG2 also in a wadi 5 mile's east of Benina airfield

Excellent! This will really liven up North Africa in my Golden Wings, which includes WW2 in parts of my GW world, one of them being North Africa.

Im not sure how these will work with GW, i usually include an alternative airfield background, but with these, only Benina needed its background reworked, the other dont have them, and im not sure how this part of the world looks in GW or what texture's are used. Any probs, give me a shout

Many thanks Ian,

Loadsa great detail, love it....populating the Libyan desert today....tomorrow ze verld!

Cheers

Shessi

Sorry Stoney and everyone else, thought i'd check'd everything--

The AI is nice but what makes me happy is the appearance of static aircraft models in the most recent sceneries. Some years ago I noticed how much longer it takes for FS to load when the aircraft folder is crammed with planes. It also occurred to me that having an active AI plane probably uses up more processor power than a static model.

To minimize all that I put all my flyable planes except a couple stock ones that are timeless and fit into all the sims, like the Cub and the DC-3, or that ft into particular installations, on my hangar drive and I only take one out to fly it. Aside from those few stockers, all that stays permanently in my aircraft folder are the AI planes. And I minimize those by just having one or two AI planes at any airfield, preferably ones that can be used in numerous places, like a Ju.52 for Luftwaffe bases. Then I populate the airfield with static models.

It works well but has one major drawback - the time it takes to make and place all those static planes and set up the AI. I just don't have time to do much of that and many of the airports I've downloaded are unpopulated and will remain so until I get some time to add static planes and some limited AI to them.

Scenery that comes straight from the box with that part done for me really makes me smile! Enough of that and I just might find some time to fly once in a while!

Thanks Mick, statics work for me too :biggrin-new:, most of us have more powerful PC's these days, and sometimes i lose patience with making traffic file's, so a good balance of both keeps me intrested. Although, when you release your B45, i'll mess around with the traffic and swap out the Alphasim B66's in my Sculthorpe scenery

PS, i also trim down the cfg entrie's in my Ai to lose any variant's i probably would'nt use
