Life Cycle of the new AA Flak Shell Flare

Guys,

The new ETO AA Flare Shell has already been updated even before release with the November update. This one has not been tested but will be in the hands of the test group today.

This AA shell is shown in its life stage in pictures below.

1. Normal shell burst with smoke and new enhanced fireball.
2. Black powder charge ejects the flare canister
3. fully opened parachute with reflected light

Now you have to fly past dangling parachutes from the flares as it should be. The best part of the AA flare as that they appear below, above, in front and behind you.

The additional flares I am puting on the JU-88s won't give you as much trouble as these bad boys. There is truly no where to hide at night now. The Wilde Sau interceptors will have a field day picking off bombers with these parachute flares.:d

Test Pack released

The AA pack has gone to testing. This new AA Parachute Flare Shell is featured in several of Nonato's new missions. Most notably the Belfast mission. I just flew it and it blew my socks off. It has searchlights and the new AA Illumination Parachute flare in it.

If you fly along behind the bombers and above them you can pick them out as the shells go off among them, then just pick one, dive on him and shoot him down. It is almost too easy to find the bomber stream. All you have to do is follow the radar aimed illumination flak shells which are following the bombers. They continue to bracket the bombers going in to and out of the target area. You can also put these well out along the incoming route of the bombers and kill them well before they even get to the target. RAF losses are about to start going up I am afraid.

You shouldn't think about having to cope with this in real life!!

Beautiful work! CFS3 is becomming very real in the night!

Very lifelike! Amazing work! Thank you for this demonstration of your expertize :applause::d:applause:

The Other War is becoming most interesting! It's a part of the air war I know little about, but I can see it would reward further reading. Dave and Kev, is that Mossie NF.II ready yet??

Thanks for the positive response fellows. We are really enjoying working on all of this stuff for you. There is a lot more coming to ETO with almost a dozen new aircraft including Greg and John's magnificent wellington in Coastal Command paint armed with buoy flares and sodium water flares for night operations.

The buoy flare has been tested and is ready to go, it ignites 90 secs after release from the aircraft and arcs up from the water surface with a fireball and smoke trail, it then explodes at 1500 ft and pops out a parachute and flare.

The sodium water flare ignites upon impact with the salt water, the initial splash is white followed by flare ignition and then the foam (new textures) turns red from the flare light. Here is a picture of the WIP on the sodium flare.

hi O-1, I post here ´cause I think it has something to do with bursting shells...
Reading a book by Sammy Sampson "Spitfire offensive" I found this sentence:"(talking about being bounced by fw190´s) the cannon shells were set to explode at 450yds or upon impact. Suddenly I saw shells exploding, puffs about the size of a large orange........so I knew at once they had the range"
ever heard about it? is that an effect which could be obtained in cfs3? thanks for your wondwrful work, my best regards, gianluca

Hello Gianluca,

I have also read of "self destructing" tracer shells but always in reference to AA guns and none on aircraft. However it is posible that there may have been some and this effect could be done.

In this next release of ETO you will see a lot of ships, new Wirblewind, Ostwind, Bofors_40mm and a new German 37mm gun that all fire large golfball tracers that explode.

Let me know if you find more documentation on this aircraft shell that is pretty interesting.

Regards

The german 20mm and 30mm could have self destructing/contact fuse, when the shell loose speed explode.
In this way they could inflict damage even if the shell don't hit the enemy or the contact fuze don't work

The fuse is the "ZZ 1589 B fuse"

Take a look here:

Someone know which is the right german tracer colour?
I read about a yellow tracer

Quote from Kagero JG301 book: "... the Russian projectiles left red tracers, in contrast to ours, which colored the sky yellow ..." (Willi Rescke's last battle in the war Tank Ta 152H-1)
