Got another one for you, Odie: The group, "Orleans"
Woo! Talking bout reminiscing !
Here's a little story :
In the 70's here in Holland i was in a band (playing bass) called Beehive. We were looking for another singer and pianist. We found this American guy in the Vondel Park in Amsterdam via an advert. His name was Eric Tagg. He said he was a singer and piano player. At our first rehearsal we were totally knocked off our socks by his singing! Never heard anything like that here in Holland !
He brought some records from the US he was particular in love with. One was from Orleans which we never heard of. Right up our alley !
One song we particularly loved was 'Tongue Tied'. I'd hoped to hear it again on the Orleans link you provided here. No go.... ( thanks for that link, these guys are still fantastic ! )
Anyway, sometime later Orleans became very popular here in Holland ( see the Orleans site ) while we struggled on for a couple years without much success. Eric lived with me for a year or so. Remarkable how he could speak dutch in no time. Got married too with a dutch girl from my hometown. The band collapsed sometime later, Eric went back to the US and became lead singer with guitarist Lee Ritenour. Our (great!) drummer Paul van Wageningen went to the US as well, Berkeley SF, where he got to play with a lot of musicians we admired so much. His younger brother Mark ( playing bass like Jaco Pastorius, our hero, couldn't tell the difference ) followed him a couple years later with even more success than his brother. They both got married, had a couple of childern and became naturalised Americans. I stayed here in Holland and became hooked on FS.... Hehe :d
Here's the only official single we've made with Beehive. Eric sings lead in the chorus ( we have much better recordings of him singing but never got released ) On the single cover he's the guy with the moustache at the front right, i'm at his six wearing a cap.

Eric cut a few solo albums too.Not sure about how popular they might've become.

Btw, i liked the Little River Band too but Orleans was something special. Looking forward to get to hear Tongue Tied again some day !
Cheers,
Jan
