Hello everyone

Just wanted to let everyone know I'm getting a little closer... received CFS3 battle over europe disk and installed same. Now where or where is the OFF3 dvd ? :whistle:
While waiting, is it worthwhile to play CFS3 ?? What are peoples opinions of CFS3 as a video game??

Almost forgot, I also ordered a Track Ir 4 pro bundle!!! Can't wait.

Yeah, I bit the bullet on that myself. Just got the word it's en route so I should have it by the end of the week.

Obviously, I don't have TIR myself, but I think you made the right choice because the underlying CFS3 view system is just pathetic. After beating my head against it for a week or 2, I sadly had to put OFF aside for actual campaigning and have just been flying around enjoying the scenery, waiting on TIR. Everybody says it's the best thing since canned beer, and even if it doesn't live up to the hype, it can only be an improvement over CFS3. And what I've seen of OFF has convinced me that it's with the price of TIR to get it into a playable state.

A lot of people feel quite disappointed with TiR when they first try it, as was I. Because it's weird. But stick with it, it becomes second-nature after a while and that's when it really kicks ass. :)
 
My two cents re:CFS3

My opinion of CFS3 is that it is terrible... on it's own. After being impressed by both CFS and CFS2, I was very disappointed with the third iteration. Not enough planes/nationalities, ugly terrain/skins, weird flight dynamics. However, OFF isn't the only worthy add-on. ETO (European Theatre of Operations) and MAW (Mediterranean Air War) turn the plain CFS3 into what it should have been; a great WWII flight Sim. You can find info regarding both here at Sim-Outhouse.
 
you might want to get Mediterranean Air War, Korean Skies, PTO Solomons mods for CFS3 while you're waiting.
 
CFS3 is major league stinko, even with some of the minor mods that came out prior to OFF and MAW and ETO. But with Trackir even it's enjoyable, just don't expect much from CFS3, as it can't deliver.

Thanks for the info, I'll def check on those other WWII addons.

[Edit] WOW, this a HOT tip -- Some of this stuff = FREE add-ons for CFS3...great way to offset the price on OFF -- now I can tell my better half I got way more games for the $50 :applause:


How come a lot of addons for the new MS CFS's are junkie?
 
CFS3's campaign was incredibly disappointing. After CFS2, I was really hoping for more than the the linear "shoot down 3 enemy planes or fail this mission" crap, and then found out that in CFS3 my actions as a lone German pilot could win Germany the war within 6 months. I am soooooo thankful for OFF for making something out of it. Haven't tried the mods listed in this thread. Maybe will give them a go someday.
 
Hey those mods sound like they may be worth while. Thanks guys. Would adding any of these mods conflict with OFF?
 
If you are looking for an out-of-the-box-WWII-combat-sim, then go further an grab IL-2 1946. There is also a strong online community.

But if you are willing to invest some time in CFS3, and familirize yourself with dozens of mods, like the ones mentioned before, then you made the right choice.
@Ricky
I have ETO installed besides to OFF3, and there is no trouble until now. I guess, PTO, KOREA, and the famous MAW are installed the same way, so there will be no problem, too.

I've got OFF, ETO, MAW, PTO, and Korean Skies all installed in my machine and have experienced "0" problems. None of them make any changes to the CFS3 install, they just copy what they need from it.
