Loading time

I love ETO but I have what may or may not be a problem.
When i start ETO it takes 10 mins+ to load. I appreciate there is alot to load but is this time excessive?

Oh my one could put the kettle to boil in that time!

On initial boot or reboot it takes about 3 minutes to load eto the 1st time on my machine. This is with 10Krpm hdds.

Restarts and switching of eras takes about 30 to 45 seconds thereafter.

I have noticed an increase in loading time as more and more airfields and global layer entries are added to the theater, This will continue as updates are released.

Another thing I have noticed is that you will need to defrag your hdd more often to keep the fragmented files to a minimum and the eto files adjacent to each other. Especially true after ctds and applying new updates.

One thing you might try is to changeout the preload.xml with different variations. The trade off is that you might get white squares or stuttering the 1st time that effect is called.

Hope that helps.

btw: How was the waterfowling this year?

The load times have been getting progessivley slower with each release, the initial fire up on my pc takes a good few minutes. Successive loads take less time though. Either way it's plenty of time to make a brew :)

Seriously though, I guess some may see it as a problem but all these new goodies come at cost unfortunately.

Thinks.....if it is too much of a problem for some it would be fairly easy for users to make a cut-down version featuring their favourite era and a/c or even five differect installs if they have the HD space.

Thanks for that. I am glad it's not just me!!!

Wildfowling was good. Fortunatley the bad weather did not last too long or that would have had an impact.
Mainly been pigeon shooting as the fields are getting hit really hard by them our way and the farmers need them thined out and or moved on. Chap I know shot 210 in two days over a Rape field!
I love pigeon pie and caseroul but not that much!!!!

While we are on a PC/loadup related topic, although I have a 10,000 rpm c: drive, it is only 150 Gb and getting full. Do you think it would make alot of difference in actually playing the game if I used the 500Gb d: drive to install the multitude of CFS3 installs I have and play from there???

I have one eto on my striped C: drives and one eto on my D: mirrored drives. I see a bit of difference in that the D: drive is slower loading up, but game play seems the same. I attribute the difference in load time to the fact that the D: drives are mirrored. All 4 drives are same model and rpm.
