Local B-24 Pilot...Ploesti Veteran

I never had the privilege to meet Mr. Mix, wish I had. I now only have one WW II pilot friend left here in Bay County after losing keith, Dean (Doolittle Raider) and John (B-17 Flight Engineer) the past couple of years.

Joseph Donahue is still alive and living here and he flew P-40s in the Pacific. He soloed his first P-40 as a 2nd Lt. at the age of 19. I hope to get him up in the C-140 soon, the weather has been really bad, rain and wind a lot this spring.

call me a softy.....I cryed...about his passing.

cheered that he had one more chance to re-live his past.

I fogged up too. I had a substitute teacher in highschool named 'Mr. Martin.' He was old even back then. He wore Horn rimmed glasses, a twead jacket and tie. None of the stupid punks in my classes respected him. Then in my junior year he sat in for our teacher in my advanced earth science class. It was a semester of Meteorology (one of 4 courses over two years) My classmate and I were thinking about ROTC in college. Chris had an advantage as his dad flew B-52s before retiring. Anyway, we basically had the class to do labs while Mr. Martin was there. We got to talking. Turns out he was a belly turret gunner in 24s during the war. Our jaws hit the floor. He was such a classy, old fashioned guy.

Now the major can shead this mortal frame, and conentrate on flying. ;)

Godspeed Maj. Mix :engel016:
