So I visited the Chino Planes of Fame museum last weekend. They have a frikken Lockheed L-12, and it's like new! That's awesome. Here's two kodaks of it, and one of the Golden Age Simulations FSX rendition. What a beautiful airplane. When I came upon it, there was another guy salivating over it. We looked at each other, as kindred airplane geeks. He started to say it was the plane Amelia Earhart flew, saw me lean forward just a tad, knew what I was about to say, and added, “well, close, she flew the L-10”, and we finished the sentence, sort of. That's funny stuff, right there. I know funny, and that's funny. Darned airplane geeks. Bug dang, I've never seen a real live L-12 before. Good stuff.

 
That is indeed a gorgeous aircraft (that is at the Yanks Air Museum, however)! : ) It is one of the few aircraft that Yanks has flown in recent years. Technically speaking, it is a UC-40A, which was delivered to the US Army Air Corps in early 1939. When I was there back on April 30, the winds were blowing 60-70 mph, and that aircraft and others closest to the hangar doors were covered in a layer of dirt/sand. It looks much, much nicer in your photos than when I saw it. Thanks for sharing the photos, Paul!

Rgr C-40... So, are the Chino Planes of Fame museum and the Yanks Air Museum two different outfits, or is the Yanks the re-named Chino?
 
Got a message in my email from the Veteran and Warbirds site that it is confirmed that 7 L-12s will be at Oshkosh this year.

The "Planes of Fame Air Museum" and the "Yanks Air Museum" are two separate outfits, but both are located at the Chino airport, in different spots on the airport.

There is a big development project linked to the Yanks Air Museum in Greenfield, California, which is slated to be a combination resort/museum/theme-park when completed and operating. One of the plans has been to base some of the Museum's aircraft at this new location, and actually fly them at this new location. https://yanksair.com/about/greenfield-expansion/
 
Rgr John, thanks. Dammit! We spent so much time at Yanks that we wouldn't have had time to go through the CPoF anyway, as we had to head north for our squadron reunion. I'll just have to go back there and spend more time. :)

Here it is, currently undergoing extensive restoration, and it has been part of the collection of our national military aviation museum since 1982:
