I have not used 2020 in months and decided to take a flight on New Years Eve. I'm using the Steam version. I tried to get the sim running and it stopped with a Xbox log in window into which I placed my email ms account email address and account password and the long in square turns black and wont let me proceed. The same happens with 2024. I don't recall having to jump through this hoop in the past to get in. Any thoughts would be appreciated and Happy New Year to all.

Hi Paul,

I've had that happen to me a month ago and a friend of mine is having the same issue.

Close the sim, and then update the Xbox app in the Microsoft Store after having logged out of the Xbox app.

Cheers,

Jan

Thanks Jan. I’ll give that a try tomorrow

Had the same thing happened to me just an hour or so ago  (I have been flying a little bit today, so no launch issues)

I was trying to purchase something in the MSFS 2024 Marketplace, and I was denied the purchase. A warning box came up and said that my Microsoft Outlook account and my XBOX App sign in accounts were different!?

I signed out of my Microsoft Outlook account and my XBOX App.

Turned off the PC

I signed back into my Microsoft Outlook account and my XBOX App.

Turned off the PC

I tried to go to the MSFS 2024 Marketplace and make the purchase, Nope, nope, nope! :banghead:

Turned off the PC

This time I started the XBOX App 1st. and I then launched MSFS 2024 from there, and I was able to get to the MSFS 2024 Marketplace and make the purchase.

I agree with the recommendations above.
My MSFS is also the Steam version. Nevertheless, I always launch the XBox app prior to launching MSFS, just to check if my "Microsoft XBox Live" account is properly logged in/identified. And I also check regularly if there are any updates available in the MS Store application, just in case.

One additional warning: when this kind of issue happens, there is a risk that the MSFS launcher has "forgotten" your install path and suddenly proposes you a 100+ GB update... Fear not, you just need to indicate you actual MSFS install location and confirm. He will then recognize the files are already there and maybe just a few need update, then it will proceed with loading. Check your in-game settings though, a few things might have been modified or lost in there...

With all the password troubles I (we) have from time to time (be it with MSFS or infinite websites), I tell my wife that it helps me keep what brain matter I have left - excercised! NC
After these last few days recertifying my MS account credentials and finally getting all applications up and running I believe that MS is forcing the use of 2FA making passwords and changing passwords more difficult. I plan on creating a security key for future use should this occur again.

Good idea. I'm using 2FA for my M$ account now. My old account had been hacked and M$ wouldn't work with me to restore my access, so I had to create a new one. I was afraid that I would loose all my marketplace addons, but since I'm a Steam user, I lost nothing. I wasn't too happy about M$ at that time!
