London bridges, everywhere!

Good afternoon,

Well, between sc7500 and Kelti's gifts into my mailbox, Greater London is now awash in bridges, from Rochester and Detling linking the Isle of Sheppey to upriver of London on the Thames. I'll put together a revised GSL for London and post it as soon as I can. Kelti also sent me a revision for the Hawker factory, which I will gladly incorporate. I love these little tidbits and goodies that show up every so often...

A Bridge Too Far

Good work Rami. I notice you put a bridge at Dartford where a road is shown crossing the Thames. This bridge in fact didn't open until 1991. Before that year Tower Bridge was the most easterly bridge crossing the Thames.

Kdriver,

I believe it was sc7500 who did that one, he wanted to "spruce up" the area around Hornchurch. One other annoying thing about GSL is that it seems to want to "pull" everything to the east, so therefore I'll need to slightly offset some of the bridges so they appear correctly in GSL.

Derrr.....!!!!!

Oopsie - Guilty as Charged.... :173go1:

Not being a local, I was going by the "land bridge" that exists in the stock CFS2 scenery, and filled the space with a suspension bridge for a little cosmetic "depth" during fly-overs and attacks....

It *IS* an added-value "what-If" target ~ FOR REAL now !!! :icon_lol:

Hi kdriver,

since I contributed placing bridges East of the Tower Bridge, I must explain the reason why I felt compelled doing that.
Sander De Cocq's beautiful work in adding coastlines, rivers and lakes to the otherwise bare naked ETO scenery in CFS2, added also roads to it.

Unfortunately, for reasons I don't know, some of those roads cross waterways instead of stopping at the river banks. That looks real bad to me, worse than having a bridge that probably wasn't there during WWII. This is why I decided to cover those hideous, unrealistic grey lines over the water with bridges.

Another option would have been deleting the roads by removing the files containing them. When I tried this solution, the ETO scenery looked even less credible, without any road anywhere. So I decided to go for the "cover-up" solution.

When I sent the GSL files to Rami as a thank you gift for the great help he gave me over some scenery install issues I experienced in the Mediterranean, I specified those bridges were all fictional, hence I never packed them up and uploaded them. Little I knew, he liked them so much he decided to upload them. Recently, I found another two of those events above Detling and in the town of Rochester, which I promptly covered and sent a copy of the GSL files to Rami.

I repeat they are just a fictional solution to a faulty looking scenery, so it's up to anybody out there deciding what they like most, either roads crossing rivers or bridges, and stick to it.

Cheers!

Sorry for my silence this days but I´ve been and still am too busy. Almost nill flying time and a few minutes to read some posts.

Well, If this would be a poll I´d vote for bridges, historical or not!!

Those roads are really a great addition by SC, (a BIG THANK YOU SANDER DE COCQ´S:applause::applause::applause:) but when they cross water they change into something completely out of place.

I´ll go with KH and Rami.:medals:

By the way, thanks to everyone that has been doing so much lately. Have seen in this days some scenery and campaigns get better and better each day. The sky is the limit. Or as Bearcat would say.. The code is the limit!

Cheers, Discus

Kelti,

I tried your revised Hawker factory, and what an outstanding job! Both you and sc7500 have carte blanche to work and modify any GSL scenery or layout of mine that you wish!

It's Safer This Way.....

...Considering my lack of focus lately, working on chunks of scenery late at night is a LOT easier compared to the Campaign work you produce effortlessly while simultaneously changing baby diapers and correcting student papers....

I hadn't noticed the
Eastward Shift of my Bridge scenery until you mentioned it - I place objects from DIRECTLY ABOVE, test-view from an oblique by fly-over, and missed it completely. Apologies all around for this glaring error - now I know to look for "The Slide", and will attempt to keep things in proper perspective !

** Rami - Are you going to release Stefano's Hawker Plant as a separate entity ? I have it installed with the original BGL / Layout, and REALLY like what he's done with the place..... Time for an Upgrade !

Thanx

sc7500,

Yes, that is the plan! I was going to release both the revised London and Hawker plant following my efforts to also "fix the slide."

Hi Kelticheart,

Yes, when I noticed the bridge I guessed that was the reason why it was put there.

I am all for as many landmarks as possible. Rami, Robert John, Tobob, sc7500, you and others have done a great job providing us with extra infrastructure and targets.

Oooops!!!

You're right! When I wrote my reply I was thinking about my Pen32Win's 2nd TAF and Achim's British/Northern France airfields....Sorry!

Cheers!
