Lonestar Aviation Museum

jmig

SOH-CM-2025
I was down at a conference this week in Galveston, TX. The Lonestar Aviation Museum has reopened with only a fraction of the aircraft it once had. According to the lady selling the tickets the only aircraft they are exhibiting are the ones which they were able to fly out before Hurricane Ike. That is maybe a dozen aircraft.

There were a lot of aircraft and pieces in the second hanger, which use to hold twenty or so aircraft. I have included a picture of that section. It was roped off to viewers.

I saw no sign of the Spitfire or Hurricane. Since they were right by the hanger door, it was possible they were totally destroyed? What a tragic lost.

Here are some shots of several of the remaining aircraft:

I don't think they were lost.... I might be wrong... Wasn't the Lone Star Hurri the one involved in a taxi accident with a two seated Spit? Might have to do some searching for you...

When lived in Houston I went to the Lone Star Flight Museum 4 or 5 times a year, it is really sad that all of those planes were damaged. I would imagine that as they get the money they will restore all of the ones that can be restored.

When you're on the Gulf Coast, you can expect hurricanes every now and then.

If you want more information on the LSFM's recovery efforts - go to the WIX forum at www.warbirdinformationexchange.org and search for some of the old threads. The Hurricane is being repaired after a runway collision and the Spitfire and some of the other birds were taken to Breckenridge, or some other place for restoration.

It is a good site for warbird news.... but they are a picky bunch, we get along much better at the Outhouse even with our little disagreements here & there...... Over at that forum they will burn your house down if you so much as post a picture w/o giving the name of the photographer, what camera they used, where it was taken, your SS#.......lol....
