Long flights.

I just started to come back to this sim...and will upgrade it to the current standard of ETO and PTO and Korea...hopefully will work....

Just wondering how you handle those long flights. I had one escort mission in a P47 that the first waypoint was 537 miles. Does the plane carry enough fuel for that and back with combat.

Second..in the first scrimiage,,,My plane took some damage and I wanted to turn back as I did not feel that I could make it....I turned and after a few minutes I tried to acclerate time,,,but the plane in auto,,turned back and tried to rejoin the squadron.

How do you get around this.

Hi

If I may say something, the long haul escort flights (Berlin, for example) had to wait the arrival of long range fighters (P-38 and above all the Mustang P-51). The early versions of the P-47 could not make it. AFAIK the secret to arrive back home in ETO CFS3 for me is to manage fuel during the long legs, reducing the power and engaging the enemy only if absolutely unavoidable. Another worry concerns the ammo, so pay attention to shoot only "when you see the white of the enemy's eyes". Sometimes it is possible to do a little cheat: reduce power and put your plane in autopilot. It'll save some fuel when you warp.
As for the situation of mission abort as you described, sorry, but there is no way AFAIK to go back home in warping mode. The game will always take you back to the squadron. So you'll have to spend long hours returning home by yourself just to land and receive a message from the game telling you that the mission was a failure! CFS3 is cruel sometimes...:isadizzy:

Hope it helps
