Looking for some stuff.

SOH-CM-2024
I have two projects I'm playing with.

The first is the Wilco/Feel There Cessna Citation X. I found an original CD on EBay(UK) and snagged it. While I'm waiting on shipping, does anyone else fly this beast? :kilroy: I'm curious about things like flight dynamics in FS9 (does it need some time in the hanger for tweaks?) and how "fussy" the animated scenery is (does the install add anything to my Registry?). If you have it and fly it, what do you like about it?

Next up, I'm looking for a repaint of the Alphasim C-130. This repaint would feature white Wings, Tail, and Fuse. Maybe something like a NATO peacekeeper scheme?
I want to try to add an updated "TACAMO" all-white scheme with minimal markings and wear, since the USN is talking about (re)replacing their E-6 Mercury comms planes with Hurks again.

Any info would be appreciated. :wiggle:

So, I'm still looking for an all-white C-130. :wavey:

I finally bit the bullet and installed the Wilco Citation. Oof..
The good news is that it didn't wipe out my carrier landing stuff like the Capt. Sim Starfighter did and the Red Carpet scenery worked fine.

The bad news? Well, I think I was able to get the APU started. It made noise and stuff.
Mind you, I HAD the manual open to page 8 to get the beast started.
The manual is not exactly clear. Half of the time it becomes evident that the author wants to be one of those modern "Meta" Comics.
Random Snark is included in spades and you wind up reading everything two or three times.
I managed to get most of the MFD's turned on but the crucial center MFD and starting the engines was beyond me.
Again, I had the manual in front of me.

Since I was limited to walking around the cold and dead plane, I noticed that the Contact Points were off a fair bit.
Hey, no problem. I'm good at fixing this stuff. :wiggle:
Well, maybe not. Editing the aircraft.cfg evidently shuts off the Panel folder like an anti-tamper device.
Which is strange, seeing as they include a Photoshop paint kit. :dizzy:
The Sound folder looks really promising (Skysong made it to their usual high standards).

So anyway, the Citation X has been deleted for now. I have a life an' stuff that's more productive than trying to flog this thing.
It has potential and I'll probably try to install it again.

So, good points- The model and textures look fairly good considering their age. It installs just fine on a 64 bit Win 10 system and I had no compatibility issues (that I know of). Just make certain that you type in the unlock code EXACTLY as it appears (use upper case letters). The sound folder has potential for other projects and I'd really like to check out the working weather radar/TCAS if I can ever get it to work. A semi-modern mother board and CPU should have no issues running this thing.

The bad points- While it has potential, the Citation X is just another example of overly fussy FS payware. Things that shouldn't be complicated wind being PROCEEDURAL. :pop4: Wilco said it was coded for casual sim pilots but the reality is that it is far from being a "kick the tires, light the fires and go" type of experience. The (pdf and physical) manual is basically useless. When you're looking for an actual start up procedure, you get bits of failed comedy and banter. If you dig around on FS,com, you can find a better check list that was co-authored by an SOH regular (you know who you are, probably :wavey:).

So, am I disappointed? Mostly no. I also collect old FS boxed CD sets and this one can proudly sit on my shelf. I should mention that this package is also available as a direct download from sites like "sim market" and if you go that route, cross your fingers that Wilco made some updates.
