Heard that it was a little HOT in Australia this week so took a fight out of Melbourne Australia and headed for the coast. When I landed I looked up and thought it might be a kodak moment. Look at it long enough with a sunlamp on your face you might feel like you are right there...lol....I am getting thirsty now.

In Auckland at the moment heading for Melbourne tonight. yesterday was apparently the warmest day here in 137 years.... 33C.....

Perhaps they will now call it as Americans pronounce it...Mel Burn.....

LOL....Mel Burn...just had a buddy who moved there last week from the Pacific NW. If you run into him "VJ" say Hi. Have a good time in Mel burn, looks like a good looking city.

Nice to see you heading back downunder Tom.

May I remind those who choose to use these forums for so called jokes like Mel Burn and things like going downunder to breathe in some smoke and hot stuff down there, what you see on your news bulletins is only a brief grab of the real thing. And for me when I watch a news bulletin I see up to 45 minutes of news of these fires at one time. I am involved in firefighting here in my local district and in 1997 lost 2 friends in a fire that was deliberately lit.

You may not realise it but some of the heroic firefighters who are battling these fires have also lost everything but in true Aussie spirit they continue to work to try and save other homes.

I know how they say "okay" ("uh-kay") from my time working in the desert with the RAAF.

I love the Aussie culture....

We have our fire season as well in Alaska, but fortunatly the Tiaga does not burn as quickly as those tinder dry grasslands and forrest in Victoria. Yesterday was a record hot here in Auckland, but today was quite plesant. Just about to board the flight to Downunder. I've seen smoke in Alaska down to 1/4 mile or less, so I hope it's better than that! Couple of smoke jumper friends have contracted lung cancer over the years as a result of the work!
