Lost missions?

I have had problems with CFS2 where Free Flight and Quick Combat would refuse to engage due to some lost file. Generally, it would appear to be a .ini or theater/location file(s).

To correct this, I did an re-install/repair. This brought no change. Free Flight refused to work, but the Single Missions accumulated from Abacus, First Class Sims or Just Flight remained accessible as did the aircraft. All expansion file material would launch.

Thinking I knew CFS2, I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it. All other files, zipped and open, remained in the root directory. HOWEVER, when I rebooted CFS2: Free Flight still did not work. The imported airplanes no longer showed on the list AND while the Single Missions list remained INTACT, NONE of the missions would launch due to a absent MISSION FILE(!!!!??).

Thus I would appreciate help in understanding WHAT WENT WRONG, WHAT I DID WRONG...and how to repair the program so 1) the lost mission files are returned and 2) may be I can finally get Free Flight and Quick Combat to run and no longer crash.

A new re-installation is no longer recognizing its former root directory and contents. Help is needed to rebuild "This Old House"....

A good idea if I had a calendar date. I do not, other then yesterday when I "killed" the mission files. I would also fear that resetting to a previous date would jeopardize days of work spent in getting CFS3 and its derivative expansion program working after their configurations went out of time.
In the case of CFS2, the Aircraft and Mission contents are intact in their respective folders in the root directory. I even tried to reinstall an expansion program, but was refused by the setup application. The core problem is how to REACTIVATE the planes (none now show in the folder for available planes apart from the stock aircraft) and the missions (all appear in the game menu program, but fail to launch due to a reported missing mission file). This later problem is also evident in the map screen where only the southwest Pacific islands are shown no matter where the mission (eg.Dam Busters). Any ideas as to how to reactivate the comatose files?

My "last good" idea was to eliminate the entire directory with prejudice. A rollback to an uncertain past could be more frustrating. Assuming I could find all the addons and expansions, I would just reinstall everybody and reconnect the lost registry or configuration files. I did experiment with one, Combat Aces of Just Flight. It worked. So I am now running around in circles again. As for Free Flight and Quick Combat, they still do not function. If anyone has ideas on how to reclaim these, I would like to know. But at least, I am status quo ante bellum.
