Dear folks,

according to a special request (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showpost.php?p=176953&postcount=13), this glamourous ol' lady is taxiing to her takeoff position:

I must admit that overcoming my increasing tendency of decorating my planes with all adequate kids of dirt, stains and scars wasn't easy, but as the depicted "3X" serves as a museum bird, she's clean as she should.

Some small pre-takeoff checks are to be finished, but she should be up tomorrow.

The next one will be a dirty one again... :d

Good night and good luck!

Now that looks absolutely stunning, the artwork looks really nice!

Thank you so much for doing this one Markus, she's a real peach! :applause:

May I suggest, and please don't think I'm nit picking, just in case you may have overlooked this, and you have asked for opinions in the past, that your 3X lettering is too thick. In the photos of the real deal, the 3X lettering is much thinner. Would you agree?

BTW, the olive drab is very good as I know you have to mix colors in order to achieve that tone. Well done. I love invasion stripes on warbirds also. I may have to get this DC-3 just for this repaint. Thanks WBK

Thanks, guys! :wavey:

Of course, each of my posted W.I.P. pics is to be considered as an invitation for comments or hints.
Your remark is very appreciated, fnerg!
I used a RAF font (non-bold) found at Simmers Paint Shop, and it's indeed too thick. I'll try to 'lean' it...

Yeah, it took me various tries to come to this.
The standard USAAF or RAF ODs were far from this "british racing green" kind of thing. Problem was to set the green layer above the basic metal layer in a proper way. The already done OD Dakotas and Skytrains were too 'war beaten' to be taken as a base. I'm aware that some repainters don't work with colored layers above photoreal metal templates, but I think it works. Did the same on the Sabres in RCAF and Luftwaffe camo and like the result.

Cheers,
Markus.

Well, I think I got it now:

Besides the 'leaner' 3X marking, the number '2' in the serial was adjusted (no Amarillo/USAF stencil, seems like a freelance version...) and the current registration N473DC added at the tailcone.

Any more suggestions, gents?

Wil Bill,

Great job on the C-47. I have a request if you have time. I have been in this one a few times. It is the Skytrain from the American Airpower Museum in New York "Second Chance"

Thanks,

Ron

Hi, guys! :wavey:

I'm back - finally.
My DSL router passed away two weeks ago (LAN port blocked) and the dorks of the ISP company :rocket: needed some time to ship a new router...

As you might imagine, there's a whole pile of things to be done now that I'm back online, but the release of "Drag 'em oot" will follow soon.

Cheers,
Markus.
