Made FSX use all my 1gb video card!

Normally FSX only used about 1/3 of my 9800GT 1GB graphics card memory. What I found was that by Adjusting the "BufferPools" up to 160,000,000 (with out the commas) let FSX use all of the 1gb memory. Don't know if that number is optimum but I Kept raising the amount until FSX use the full 1GB. It does not use the full 1gb all the time but it would spike to 99% at times and had a 60% + use rate most of the time. I used the program "EVGA Precision" to monitor the usage and ran FSX in the Windows mod so I could monitor EVGA readouts. Interesting!

Sounds interesting. What were the benefits you got from it?

Don't know of much but I do seem to get less stutter. I've not run it this way for that long so not sure. But I would think (???) having the use of more memory would be of some benefit at some point? I'll do more testing. From others it seems that setting the pool to 0 gets you the best results. But when I did that the Card memory was register as "0" usage. I think that tweaking gets you just that a tweak and that's all? :mixedsmi:

Pepere I tried it last night and it is an improvement for me. I have a GTX285 2 gig card and i noticed that my pan rate is better in that it does not stutter when I pan around . And I have no more spikes when I pan around . so it seems to work for me. Thanks for the HU :salute:

I am running a ASUS 5870 video card (Matrix). Although at one point I had considered "tweaking" it's settings, I never did.

Is it worthwhile attempting this?

I dont think it would do any harm. If it doesnt work just put it back to what u had it ar before. Might not help at all and it might improve. With fsx who knows why one tweek for this guy works but doesnt work for that guy. ?

Did an hour flight last night and my FPS seem better and no noticeable stutter. Stutter was getting to be a big problem with my system. For now it seems good to go. Later I'll do a flight into JFK to see what happens there.
