MAIW in MSFS

SOH-CM-2024
I've just posted this over on the MAIW forums. It's waiting for admin approval, so I thought I'd post it here too. I've managed to get the MAIW FSX/P3D RAF Typhoons to show up and move at the default MSFS Lossiemouth. I changed the parking codes from MIL_COMBAT to RAMP for testing purposes of course, but the initial results are quite promising I think:

I placed the existing aircraft folders into the standard MSFS aircraft directory structure, added the MSFS AI traffic entry into each aircraft.cfg section, then used AIFP for MSFS to import the flightplans and create MSFS flightplans. It works!

Thanks Denny, I hope to share with MAIW how it's done so they can test it and hopefully improve on it themselves - it'll be worth it because that Typhoon in the foreground has red tapes on it's nose which are moving in the wind - the detail on these models is fantastic!

I can also edit parking spots with ADE, so it'll be easy to change them from GA to MIL - although the MAIW Typhoons don't have a parking radius defined so that may need fixing first.

MAIW are waiting for MSFS2024 to be launched so they can assess the new AI Traffic engine - they are hoping to be able to work with MSFS2024 if not MSFS2020.

I am surprised someone hasn't already implemented it.

MAIW were just about to when a Sim Update changed the AI traffic behaviour and ruined all their work - aircraft not following flightplans or staying on schedule for instance.
Hopefully the new and improved AI traffic engine in MSFS2024 will be a more stable platform for them to build on, they already have updated PBR textures and afterburner effects ready to go.

This is one of the drawbacks of a sim platform that is constantly being played with. Must be frustrating for developers who have to keep doing updates because things have changed within the sim. Hopefully, the learning involved in 2020 helps to create that stability in 2024.

If the doyen of AI (John Young) gave up on Asobo and it's constant amatuerish meddling..... I know one thing, if they don't sort out the camera and AI system for 2024 it's Sayonora from me.

Oh come on people, there are these things called change and progress. We will not immediately get what we want, but we'll get it some day.

A lot of us have eagerly awaited the tower/flyby view, we don't have it yet. Nobody died.

When seeing what they came up with on those vids, I'm exited. I've also done this thing too long not to get too exited! :p

Cheers,

Priller

I wouldn't say that.....

I'm getting the uneasy feeling we're not getting it either. Atleast not the "real time one click instant fly-by version" like we were used to ( 'were' because it's a shameful more than 4 years ago now..). Just too complex. Breathtaking amazing almost real world scenery that cannot by far be compared with what the FS9/FSX (and before) Fly-By Camera had to deal with (not really that much, was it...). Maybe MSAsobo have discussed the matter or put it away with "let the thirdparties deal with it". For that latter option we only have FCR to rely on and by trying the so called 'Beta' fly-by camera the fly-by future looks pretty grim. We shall have to pay the price for all this beauty... Probabely gonna be Fly-Bye this time around.

I noticed FCR is baked into FS2024, maybe there's less of a Beta flavour to it there!
