• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

'Make Your Air-Conditioner Last Longer'

LOL....cleaning helps some....but the best thing is to have a 5 minute time delay on the condenser....biggest drain on a compressor is when it starts and that also is the most amp draw. A easy way to look at a AC is this way....what is less wear and tear on a car....driving on interstate or in town...AC are the same...It is better for them to run longer than to stop and start all the time. Most AC now have oilless bearings...blowers that is. The one in the air handler and the one on the condenser. Replacing motors,caps,wiring,thermostats,blade...is doo doo compared to replacing the compressor.

When we added central air to this house in 02, I asked for recommendations on what size unit. Then I doubled those as I've always felt it was better to light load a machine than having it run flat out all the time. I do know our electric bill in summer is about half what Mrs Willy's folks are next door. He went with what was recommended and that unit's humping all the time.
