Making a sound louder in game

I have some wav files which are almost deafening outside the game, but I can't even hear over the wind noise in aircraft even with the engine sound muted. How can one change sound volume in game, and I don't mean in the QC start screen.?

I had assumed that the higher the atten="x", the louder the volume! Now set to "1" but might ass what happens if "". In any case I will add the info to the project knowledge base sticky.
