Manually install folders - avoiding auto-installers

Hello All,

I am sorry, but I asked this question over a year ago but can't seem to find the archived responses. (I should have saved the replies.)

Here goes again: I have a couple of payware aircraft that came with these auto-installers and I don't feel comfortable letting the installer install items in the various folders as it sees fit.

I know some of you wrote some great advice for avoiding this issue and effectively getting around the auto-installer that wants to send everything to the folder containing FS9.

I would appreciate your guidance one more time. (Perhaps you saved your own responses somewhere and therefore will not need to re-type, should you choose to reply this time around. :icon_lol:

Gratefully,

The more benign variety of installers simply looks for a FS9.exe file in the folder you point them to.
So you start by making a folder ie C:\installs and then copy the fs9.exe file from your main FS install into that folder. Copy not Move :)

For installers that are a bit more pesky you might need the Flight1 utility that allows you to change the Registry where FS is located with simple point and click and not editing the registry manually.

The first two steps are the same, but then you run the F1 utility and point to the new FS9.exe
Then run the installer and it should be happy.
Copy all the files except the FS9.exe into their correct locations.

If you have no further installs to do run the F1 utility again and point to the regular FS9.exe and you are done.

Cheers
Stefan

The best point of advise is to avoid auto-installers and put all folders in their proper place manually, HOWEVER, I have always felt that a reputable company that uses auto-installers, such as RealAir Simulations, or Virtavia for example, it would be no real problem to just run the installer from that company. I have had the RealAir Spitfire XIV and their SF.260 over the years, installed on 3 different machines using their auto-installer program, and there was no adverse effect on FS9. Just My 2 bits worth...:kilroy:

To each his or her own though. I have Flight1 Registry Utility Stefan spoke of, and it works quite well.
