Martin Baltimore MK.V for CFS2 !!

The right Baltimore DP has four fixed Browning .303 rear firing machine guns. I sent it by E-Mail but, probably, Morton didn't get it. I'll upload the fix here.

Cheers

Pepe

The MkIV and MkV had two .5 Brownings in a Martin turret, it was only the MkIII that had four .303s in a Boulton Paul "Defiant" type turret ;)

Sorry, you're wrong! The Baltimore has two kinds of rear defensive weapons: a swivel or a turret mount with one, two or four machine guns AND four FIXED .303 Brownings. They also have FOUR FIXED Brownings at the wings firing forward. You need to study a little more, dear friend! Here is a good beginning:

Baltimore Mk5

Thank you Morton, Thank you Pepe, and Thank You Gaucho for the skins, conversion, and panel. I really liked the link Pepe sent Hewman. Very Imformative!

Is there a skin for the RAAF (Pacific) in the Works?

Maybe it is just me but I like the machine gun trigger to fire the forward guns and the cannon trigger to fire the rear guns. I noticed that the triggers are reversed like the Baltimore Allen redid. Therefore, I reversed the triggers in Pepe updated DP file. I attached a copy below

They were used by the Aussies only on the Mediterranean Theatre.

Thanks very much Giuli, Pepe, Gaucho and Morton - your textures are magnificent as usual.

Regarding the fixed rearward firing guns, the pilot could also fire them by means of a foot pedal - I'm not sure how he could see what he was shooting at.

Two RAAF squadrons operated Baltimores in the MTO - 454 and 459 Squadrons.

Is there any way to fix the contra-rotating propellers with this model?

Thanks again,

Kevin :icon29:

It's simple, but the ground behaviour of the plane will go beyond any control. If you want to try, just go to these linecodes:

[propeller]
thrust_scalar=1.00000
rotation= 1,-1 //Engine 1,2,3,... Rotation direction. 1 = CW, -1 = CCW

Substitute them by:

[propeller]
thrust_scalar=1.00000
rotation= -1,-1 //Engine 1,2,3,... Rotation direction. 1 = CW, -1 = CCW

Another possibility is delete the numbers after "rotation="

Good luck!

Pepe old chum, your post previous to this stated for REAR firing guns, hence Hewman's confusion. Ian's knowledge of all things WWII British aviation is pretty danged spot on.

crossed wires as they say.

Many thanks to all involved, will download ASAP and then find the original also.

Fascinating stuff. They're operationally redundant though as there's no way to control where they fire.
Possibly would've been retained by squadrons such as 13 (Hellenic) for use on Anti-shipping strikes, but for level bombers of DAF more likely to have been removed for use elsewhere.

Thanks Pepe - I'll give it a go.

They have a lot of dissuasive power. It's not easy to attack a plane that can fire you with EIGHT machine guns, in... The Baltimores were even used as escorts to Beaufighters equipped with torpedoes and rockets!

The rear firing guns were usually fired by the rear gunners.

I've got both props now turning in the right direction and, like the real Baltimore, you have to be a bit gentle with the throttles on takeoff and keep some pressure on the rudder.

With contra-rotating propellers it was already difficult for the average simmer. So, I prefer to keep it...
