Good News,
Virtavia gave me the go ahead test my alternate Martin Mars sound set with the flight-sim community. I need a few volunteers to test this sound set. Please PM with your e-mail address if you would like to test this sound set; the sound set is large (12 MB) so you need to verify if your mailbox can handle an attachment this large. As an alternative I can try to send it to you the file via Dropbox, if you have a Dropbox account.
Important:
Virtavia will provide NO tech support for this alternate sound set, so if you have any issues with this sound set, you should direct all inquiries to me. This is my ball of wax. Essentially, I think I’ve taken this alternate sound set as far as I can with my limited skill-set. I just want to make sure there are no show stopping issues before I upload this sound set to Avsim’s library.
Sound Set:
The genesis for my tinkering with the original sound set was that I had on-going sound distortion / warping in my exterior flyby view, and when panning around the exterior of the aircraft. It just wouldn’t go away. If you don't have these issues then you probably don't need this alternate sound set.
Overall I think I have addressed the sound distortion / warping issues in my fly-by view and exterior panning. Finally, I can turn up the speakers LOUD and wake up the neighborhood as the Martin Mars roars across the screen.
From within the VC, the left hand engines start-up favor the left speaker, the right hand engines start-up favor the right speaker. Nothing earth-shattering here; I just wanted to know if I could do it.
From the exterior of the aircraft, I have provided an alternate engine idle (via an alternate sound.cfg file) that has a raspy / rhythmic idle that you sometimes hear with the Martin Mars R-3350-24WA engines. The default idle sound file now sounds pretty damn good too. So neither is really better than the other. I like both.
Installation:
RENAME the original sound folder within the Martin Mars folder to read as:
sound_ORI
This will be your backup of the original sound set.
Then copy my new sound folder into the Martin Mars folder. You may have to restart the flight-sim to reload the sound sets.
Note the following:
Like the original sound set, I kept the interior sounds relatively quiet as compared exterior sounds. I like it that way, especially on the Martin Mars. That way when you pop out to the exterior, it’s loud and nasty.
You may have to adjust your treble / bass to get the sound set to your liking. I had to add a little more bass to add a little more beef to the sound set.
I don’t use FSX sound cones, as I find most sound sets that use FSX sound cones too quiet for my tastes (from the exterior views when zoomed out).
I have all my FSX sound level slider bars set to the FSX default 50%
Regards,
Tommy
