MAW Martlets Missing Gauges?

I seem to be missing a couple of gauge files for the MAW Martlets - could everyone do a search to see if these are in your installs, please?

wcat_gauges_1.dds
gauges.dds

Thanks.

Missing but unused?

Hello phrog, I can't find either file in my MAW install either.

If you look at the AvHistory F4F-3 you'll find these texture files are also called for in the cockpit .M3D but no gauges seem to be missing in the model - just like the MAW version. Nor are those texture files there either. I can only assume the modeller changed which texture files were wanted in the model but didn't delete the materials from the model's gmax materials list.

The original model source files were lost in an HD crash (the one true sign of an experienced modeller...), so unless you have a problem with the Martlet, I wouldn't worry.

On further thought, create a checkered 512x512 bitmap in pink and bright green, save as DXT1 format wcat_gauges_1.dds and drop it in the model's texture folder. Delete the model's .BDP file and run MAW. If nothing unexpected appears in the VC then that texture definitely isn't needed. You can try the same for gauges.dds too.

@Old Tiger - I can see two gauge faces missing in that screenshot...

Old Tiger,

the missing gauges are circled; there are also missing gauges on the side consoles:

hairyspin, I believe you are correct about the lost files. I've used your suggestion in the past for texture issues, so I'll try that by making the rainbow texture files, naming them
wcat_gauges_1.dds and gauges.dds, then try to determine what gauge should be there and where to put it on the sheet.

I do have a gauges.dds in one of my installs but it is for an Me-410 so that certainly isn't right! Also, the Wildcats at Reg's have completely different c'pit mapping.

If the original developers of this fine model are out there, some guidance would be appreciated. We might even have a "rookie" team project here :applause:

Did that. Photo attached. wcat_gauges appears second from right between climb and rpm and gauges.dds appears as a rectangle on the right, below the switches and above the crank.

Wouldn't you know this is the best picture I could find...

I think the one that's missing is the Manifold Pressure Gage.

...try copying the shared files for the f4f3 or Martlet over from a different install (PTO,ETO)...
I've had this problem two or even three times and this not only worked but was an improvement... good luck:engel016:

Bother. I checked my AvHistory F4F-3 and the same gauges are missing :redf:.

Use the ETO Martlet instead, it has a full set of gauges in a better 'pit. It might even be worth trying the ETO model's VC in the MAW one - worth a try anyway.

hairy spin, I tried that this am. The eto/pto pit is much better but there are minor alignment issues, for example the sim pilot goggles appear when using this pit in the mto model. This is easily corrected by using ctrl B to change the viewpoint. Is there a way to permanently reset the viewpoint like in CFS2/FS9?

Also the in the eto/pto version the instrument panel is invisible in outside views although this might be related to slider settings, so that's why I was wanting to use the mto 'cat. Thanks for all the suggestions!

If you turn the aircraft detail slider down - to 2 or 1 iirc - you should see an LOD (level of detail) less than 100, the maximum. Whether a panel now shows in external views is dependant on how much detail the modeller retained at the lower LODs. Don't assume any panel you see is the same as the VC - it may only be a low-resolution graphic. In any event, working gauges aren't supported outside the VC.

If the ETO Martlet doesn't show a panel in external views, it may be because the modeller didn't think it worth including or had other priorities in finishing the model.

I don't yet know any way of permanently resetting the VC viewpoint, but the .XDP may hold some hope. The SDK is of course lots of help. :isadizzy:
