McPhat Studios UHDT Textures / Tube Haters Don't Look :)

The Coolsky http://www.coolsky.no/ and McPhat Studios http://mcphatstudios.net/ websites are two of the ones I visit daily.

Been waiting for the release of the new McPhat UHDT 4096x4096 textures for the Super 80.

The first release just went live yesterday.

I tried to do some screenies but the best way to see the difference is to head to the Multimedia section where they have before and afters.

Beautiful textures, ugly tube, fair and balanced.:ernae:

They should make a high def VC for that plane... the current one has the resolution of something from FS2002... :173go1:

Niiiiice. Okay, here's my confession: although I'm an avowed GA flier most of the time, I do have the F1/Coolsky Super 80, and I think it's a fantastic bit of work. I'm with Kiwikat, though, sure wish they'd rework those VC textures. I have some of McPhat's previous skins (non-HD) and they were great. These look an order of magnitude better.

That freeware AAL UHDT paint they just released is magnificent:applause::applause::applause:. And I agree about VC, although Espen (the developer) stated that they are contemplating on doing it in high res. Still it's my favorite tubeliner ever, and only one I'm currently willing to fly.

I can be quite nitpicky, but the fact that this doesn't touch my framerates keeps me coming back to it. I could go for a high res VC, but I'm definitely satisfied with it the way it is. I know some people are turned off by graphics substituting for 3d modeling, but for that type of texturing I thought they did a pretty good job.

True words. There was a tubeliner FPS comparison at AVSIM sometime ago and S80 kicked the ass of any other addon tube in that particular area. It's smooth as butter, and believe it or not, but that UHDT livery has no effect on the frames whatsoever:ernae:

The modeling is fine, I just want them to redo the textures so they are higher resolution. Some/most of the text is unreadable. If you look in the texture folder, you'll see why. Very low resolution textures...

As nice as the "UHDT" texture look like, the Super80 is butt ugly from the inside. The VC has hardly any polygons nor proper texturing. Great external texture for the wrong plane so the speak.

Beautiful textures! My wife and I had the pleasure of filling a couple of seats on one of the AA birds just the other day. Does this model of the Super 80 have a virtual cabin, or just the cockpit?

Just the cockpit as far as I know. But that's not worth talking about. Looking at VCs of today (like MD-11, L-39, B377, Catalina) and the likes, the one from the Super80 looks like FS2000. It's a nice plane (I flew the classic Super80 a while) with great framerate, but visually it doesn't hold a candle to todays addons.

Not to argue semantics, but it doesn't hold a candle to the top of the top add-ons such as the MD-11, B377, Catalina, etc. Compared to a huge percentage of add-ons I have for FSX and FS9, it's quite nice. And don't discount the systems simulations as well. I'm not a real pilot, but I find them to be very advanced, and have enjoyed the tutorial mode...I learned a lot from it.

Ok ok, I know, I'm acting like a fan-boy here. If you are planning on purchasing this bird be aware that the VC is low polygon and uses 2d textures for knobs and the like before you make the purchase. But I still think it looks quite nice. The textures, though low res, are well-made and look very realistic, not a poorly done photoreal, etc.

And never forget Flight1's 30-day no questions asked money back guarantee!

The tutorial mode is really nice indeed. And the exterior is nice too, esp. with the windows beeing see-through and not just painted on. But the VC is not very well done. It's a pity since I like the 80 very much and in the early days of FSX this was a great addons. But with so many new and far better VCs out there it's hard to like the 80 anymore.

Now then Bill, are you going to admit that you've applied a bit of paint to tubes in the past? Think I'd forget? Elephants don't forget!
