ME-109 2omm Shell Damage to L-4

Guys,

While doing some research I came across this site with pictures. Why on earth the wing did not fold on that L-4 is beyond me. Look at the exit damage in the picture from the shell as it exited the steel tube.

The AAF lost a lot of L-4s to Luftwaffe fighters in North Africa and Italy but very few in France.

The tracer colors by the way were white and red from the ME-109.

He's a lucky type! That wing should have folded, goodness knows why it didn't!

Interesting colours of tracer though - as far as I understand, 20mm and 13mm tracer was blue... I can't find any reference to other colours in these calibres. That doesn't necessarily mean much!

And as a final point, that Bf109g-6 is the next one on my list. It was captured at Comiso on 14th July 1943 when the RAF took the airfield. The interest is that it's a U4.
