Memorial Day at Falcon Field

While touring through Sentimental Journey the battery in my camera died, so I went to the car and got the spare.....While mom and I were going through again they gave us a choice of standing over in the hanger or staying onboard while they test ran two of the engines. Tough Choice, a little heat and noise for one of the most amazing moments in my life. Mom was really jazzed, Grandpa had been flying sub patrols over the Gulf during the war, and she really enjoyed seeing all the gadgets and gizmos they had on display....brought back allot of good memories for her I think.

Amazing how Sentimental Journey looks so new, well preserved..

For anyone going near Phoenix Arizona, stop by this museum. Its about 20 miles from Central Phoenix (if that) and is one awesome, clean, well maintained museum. They give rides on certain days in the bombers, such as the B-17, Sentimental Journey. Call for info.

The airport alone is loaded with tons of goodies, old planes everywhere, from DC-3's to stripped military Korea war Helo's.

Of course the only Falcon Field I know of is in Peachtree City GA. :bump:

Enjoyed a couple of airshows there a long time ago.
 
Beautiful pictures of beautiful aircraft. Too bad I don't get out that way very often.
 
I think that is the CAF Heinkel 111 right? I saw it in the hangar of the Cavanaugh Flight Museum here in Addison TX... not 2 months ago. She had been there for awhile. Apparently the CAF uses the facilities for hangar space and maintenance. A B-24 was getting ready to see the light of day again after a complete rewire of the aircraft.

That is the He-111 that Falcon used to have. It went down and took both of her pilots with her while on approach to an airport a couple of years ago. Total loss.

I went aboard it. Very well laid out plane. Bombs were in cabinets along each side of the interior. Way different then usual. There was a belly gunners position below the deck plates (floor) near the back door.

Sure was a sleek plane. Thank the Lord the war is over.

Right you are. I haven't been there in at least five years. I think I'll run over there next winter when all the aircraft are home.

That was in 2001 I think. I was living up in way northern WI at the time and it was supposed to come to an airshow in Duluth, MN.
Truly a real loss. Would have loved to see it fly.
 
Nice pictures. Too bad all four engines weren't turn'n. Some might think that the price for a flight is alittle steep, for me it was money well spent. My wife spends more on clothes that she doesn't even wear. lol

Ha! a MiG-21. I've sat in cockpit of Finnish one at Rissala. the cocpit was claustrophobic, and rest of the plane was enormous. I tried the controls too, still working..:applause: Hard to imagine that it once was top notch fightercraft.

Like said before, the Collings group has one.. and now I see they are offering "experience" packages in both it & the Me-262... as well as an A-4... Gary (GT182) here in the forum would know more than I... That is the only one I think I know of that is flying...
