Hi Guys; I have this message, "Failed to initialize the databases. You might need to reinstall this product as some data files are missing or corrupted"
I have been trying to install Maskrider's DEI. A couple of wierd things happened. I installed the the new air bases and gave them #s. It was a stock airbase dat file. The next time I looked at the airbase dat file, all the new bases where at the begining of the list with xxx's for runway and id. At the end of the list were the new bases with the correct runway and id. I can't fly in quick combat or freeflight. I just finnished putting Rhumps mesh and patex in the files and all was fine.
The file with the read me doc was empty. I just followed the instructions on MR's site. The only thing I am not sure of is the "contents to cfs2 main scenery folder". I put this in "SCENERY" folder. It must belong somewhere else? I have been copying files from my other cfs2 install, ships, objects, mdl, etc. Any ideas? I am pretty sure if I try repair or reinstall, I will loose most or all of the addon files. This is not life threatening. I am just trying to start a new install with Rhump's stuff. If needed, I will start from scrath................dang it. Thanks guys.

Possible causes...

Over 99 Aircraft (I think that applies to folders only) in the install...

And/Or

I do not know what the ship limit is...I have 219 ships in my PTO install and counting, and CFS2 and mission builder starts up and loads up fine. I enter information for all the ships in the mdlnames.txt, descrip.dat and callsign.dat files (don't know if that has anything to do with it or not), and make sure that the DP file inside each ship folder has the same name as the ship folder name (have no spaces in the names or descrip.dat won't 'see' the ship). If the DP filename needs to be changed, don't forget to edit the ship.cfg sim= entry also. The mdl file may have to be the same name as folder also, but not sure. The descrip.dat and callsign.dat files are in the CFS2 INFO folder.

The airbase.dat file does not appear to be correct for you either. The xxx's for runway and id have to contain numbers that you will have to include. The first base entry should start with a runway entry at 0, the next is 1 and so forth. Thay have to be numbered in acsending sequence. The Mask Rider entries should (be appended) come after the stock and/or previous entries in the dat file. And runway numbering should start with the next available runway number. The id does not have to be in ascending order, but should not contain duplicate numbers that may be assigned to another base. Mission files use the id number in the dat file to id the airbase.

mariereid,

Get Jagd's cfs2 mega patch from here in the basment. Use all of his files and folders. Follow his readme files and you should be okay. He has already done all of the work for the airbase.dat, descript.dat, and everything else you will need to get up and running in each theater of operations.

I always open his DAT files, edit/select all/copy and the open the game equivalent file and edit/select all/paste/save Jagd's entry. To me it is easier than deleting and renaming.

Hi mariereid, please do not take this as demeaning, but hey, we all had to start somewhere. A little Windows Basic tutorial. Actually...we all hear a lot of terms new to us and you would be surprised at what one can find at the utube. For me...once I visually see it...done deal. :mixedsmi:

Thanks guys; I have Jagd's stuff, just waiting until I get things working before I have a look at it. The airbase dat file is ok, now. Somehow I had MR's bases in there twice, once at top with xxxs and also at the bottom with id and name. It was stock so I just numbered them after Gasmata. I have done this before, so at least I know that part is ok. One problem might be what I did with the "contents_to_main_cfs2_scenery_folder". I have a feeling this belongs in the scenery cfg. Do I have to make a folder or something for this, I have no info for this file. Anyway, I am going to have a look at all the files later today. I was trying to save some time by copying files from my main cfs2 install. Mostly I wanted the files needed for MR,s bases. Trees, buildings, Wolfi's stuff, etc. If I have to start from scratch, I will install these files without copying them from my main install. Thanks for your help and time fellas, I am going to read your posts again and see if I can figure this out. Even if I have to start over, at least I will get more practice with files. Fiddling with the files is half the fun, when you do it right.:wavey:

Dave; demean away, my friend! 6 months ago I thought LOL meant lots of love. I am slowly learning, very slowly!

No, just copy your INFO, LAYOUTS, OBJECTS_DB, SCENEDB folders that have all of the add-ons and paste them into the new install. Then make sure your mdlnames.txt file matches.
