II./JG3 was rushed from the East Front to contest the Normandy invasion in the summer of 1944. Flying low level interdiction and ground attack missions, it lost 87 pilots to ground fire (over 200% loss!) and Allied fighters while claiming 51 aerial victories before being pulled out of France on August 22.
